If you are at all interested in military history, shooting military surplus firearms, or simply a cost-effective way of entering into the shooting sports (whether for target shooting or hunting), I would recommend ww w.surplusrifle.com (plus the related forums) and
www.milsurps.com (a forum sponsor). The first one provides many articles on various military surplus firearms, detailed dissassembly/assembly instructions and other aspects of the hobby, often emphasizing how to enhance your marksmanship and further your enjoyment of the sport without breaking the bank. Milsurps.com has more detailed information on different rifle types for the more serious collector, and seems to have particularly knowledgeable people who frequent their forums.
If shooting military surplus becomes a serious interest, there are several other boards that might also tickle your fancy, such as gunboards.com and "Parallax Bill's Curio and Relic" discussion forums. Gunboards.com has forums on Swedish and other Scandanavian hunting firearms that are particularly usefull in the event that you get interested in the many rifles that have been imported in recent years from that part of the world and are currently available at reasonable prices (see Tradeex.ca, another sponsor of this site).
If the forums here happen to kindle some interest in shooting battlerifles like the M1 Garand or M14 varients (such as the Norinco M14S), you might find ww w.battlerifles.com to be very informative about that class of rifles.
If you lived in Ontario and were interested in hunting, I would have suggested the Huntontario.com forums, but seeing that you are in BC, suggest that you do a search for a similar board that might cover hunting opportunities in your area.
Good Luck,
Frank
PS. If you have any particular area of interest, mentioning that would greatly help narrow down the ideas that others might suggest/offer to you.
