What are the best rings/bases for a new Win 70 .270win?

Start with a new scope that has a 1" tube and finish with a set of Leupold DD's. IMO for a hunting rifle there is none better and I have tried them all.

I agree wholeheartedly. Best bang for the buck when the scope is the correct length for the action. Real short scopes and long actions pose a problem.

DNZ Game Reaper one-piece, but it depends on the application. Otherwise there's lots of good options, Warne, Talley, and Burris Signature are favorites of mine.

EVERYONE makes weaver style rings these days all the way from el-cheapo to high end and very dependable. It's a very good system, esp with steel weaver bases.

.

You think the Weaver is much better than say a standard 1913 type?

**NOTE** I'm not talking weaver brand rings here. I use Burris, Warne, Leupold etc brand rings that use the weaver system. It's the most copied system out there including the picatinny ones.

Not sure what a 1913 type is, but I've used the weaver system on several types of rifles in chamberings up to 375magnum and it has never let me down. I've been to the Yukon twice with a 375. Both times I used weaver type R&Bs. It is dependable, flexible and not overly expensive.

no as I am sending back the defective set he made me, that were supposively done to exacting custom standards...that I waited almost a year for... I would suggest that the are in fact not the best. He told me he had done rings for this scope before as well... I guess he hadnt. It didnt fit in three places, the bell touched, it allowed for no for an aft movement for eye relief and it touched in the rear as well. 3 issues isnt that good.

His solution was get another scope. Yeah I will ditch an almost $3K scope for your $400 dollar mount. Apparently according to him its just me with this problem. I have the gun at a very reputable gunsmith so I will get something else.

I am pissed off about this alot. I liked his mount, wanted it to work...but it just doesnt. I wont even get into the "wait" for the mount, ironic considering he quoted me no more than 6 weeks when I bought it.

Sorry boomer...we are going to have to disagree here.

What is the scope you have? From what I can see from your description I'd be putting it on the EE tomorrow.

Other than being high, clunky, and heavy no. :D

:D

I wanted QD so I could swap scopes. They're only a little higher than the low weavers and the Leupold FXII 4x33mm actually fits better with them as the front objective bell doesn't interfere with the front mount.

I like the low mount dual dovetail, but modular is more important to me. Scope breaks, just pull another out of the backpack and lever it on.

I have the leupold dual dovetail and they work fine. Just an option, not saying that they are the best but I like them.

Buy the right scope and mounts in the first place and you wont have to carry an extra scope in your backpack.

If you are that worried about your scope breaking you are buying the wrong scopes.

No problem, sorry to hear yours didn't work out. It seems that BUM wasn't knocked out with his Near experience either, but its been all good for me. Richard offered to let me try the mount if I just lightly mounted it to check the eye relief and said I could return it if it didn't work out. That sounded fair enough to me, now its glass bedded to my rifle.
