What are you guys using to hang steel targets?

My range has some rebar target stands at various distances with an assortment of steel targets, some much too large for my liking. I have some of my own AR500 in more challenging sizes that I like to put out but nothing is more annoying than sending the 400m target flying off the rebar S hook with the first shot. Old fire hose seems to do really well for hanging targets, or even old transport tie downs. I’m looking for something that will keep the target from flipping around too much and something that is easy to set up, take down and transport.

What are you using?

Anyone know where to get an old roll of fire hose?

I build simple A frames and they support a piece of 1" EMT. Then my targets are hung with old forestry fire hose. The hose takes multiple hits. I won't even bother with chain or anything else. The hose is where it's at

Fire hose is pretty good but absolutely nothing beats fairly thick conveyor belt material attached with tough nuts and bolts that can take shrapnel well(I forget what they are but they are yellow. Grade 5 or 8 or something)

Insite arms target hangers, T-posts and conveyor belt strips with 3” round gongs bolted to them. Very portable and works great.

2x4 frame, and fire hose. We are required to shroud our steel, so I incorporated handing and shroud as one. There is a U bolt that holds the hose.

How are those bolts holding up to impacts? Any chance a hit will completely jam it up making it difficult to remove the target from the range?

In my experience good. Most of the threads are protected. As long as you can get something on the bolt head, I had no issue removing them.

The bolt heads get shot up but bolts are cheap, just replaced a few and repainted some of my gongs.

My setup with Insite hangers for T-posts. Insite also makes IPSC targets with slots that drop right onto those hooks for further out.

I use chain but then I'm not sending hot rounds at it either at 15 meters.

If you want the harder steel lags and nuts go with grade 8, Acklands Grainger can get them for you.
