What are your favourite mods to the SKS?

Swap out the stock with something that has a longer length of pull & clean up the trigger.
Remove pig sticker.
Enjoy.

Screw on a 1" rubber button extender. $15 us shipped. Sksman.com. Best, simplest, inexpensive fix for short lop.
 
LOL I (sarcastically) like all the posts that tell the OP what to do with his rifle, not how and what to mod.

I personally think that modding the SKS is a great idea for those who can and are willing to. A stock SKS is a beautiful thing but a modded one has a different beauty of its own.

Anyways, onto the mods -----> I have a heavily modified 1954 Russian SKS with the following mods:

1. Trigger job for a smoother trigger and positive engagement for safety.
2. Murray's spring loaded firing pin and firing pin hole polish/countersink to prevent slamfires and popped primers.
3. ATI folding stock.
4. Drop-free bolt mod that allows the mag to be inserted and extracted with the bolt closed.
5. Blued the bolt carrier.
6. Ejector port mod to allow the casings to be extracted at a 90 degree angle (3 o'clock position).
7. Tapco 20/5 round mags.
8. Duckbill-less mod for the Tapco mags and the carbine.
9. AK-like mag release.
10. Choate scope mount bolted to the receiver.
11. 3-9 x 42 scope.
12. Glow-in-the-dark paint dots on the front and rear sights for easier aiming, even at night.
13. A laser and a flashlight (LOL now it's really getting to be ridiculous, nah not really)
14. Recrowned the barrel.
15. Pin-on muzzle brake.
16. Chopped off the bayonet and just kept the rear end of it to keep the cleaning rod in place.
17. A bipod.

If you haven't figured it out already, this is my SHTF gun.

I like my sks just like my women, all natural beauty no bling crap ie tapco stocks and mags
 
I like my SKS like my women all modded up with bolt one. So far I have a metal vented hand guard, a 30 round metal mag pinned to 5 rounds. It is just for looks. I plan on putting optics on it but not sure what scope probably a red dot on the rear sight area. Where can I mount a flashlight?

The Chinese ones are not garbage, they are built just as well as the Russian ones, except for the stocks and bayos are not as good as Russian. Also, you have the benefit of an unfired surplus Chinese one, you now can see how it work out in the long run. I'm not saying the Chinese one is better, so don't go all pms crazy, I'm just saying they are not garbage, and you are wrong sir lol
