What are your favourite mods to the SKS?

What proof do you have to back up your statement that a Chinese SKS is performs as well or better than a Russian made SKS?
The proof to me is is the better groupings with my iron sighted chi com, then I can get out of my choate/Promag mounted scoped SKS. And seeing as I am shooting both it stands to reason that I will not doubt the results....

Someone in Blue, please colour N84 pink again, will ya...... Lol. If all you have shot is a Russian, all you are doing is flapping your gums with absolutely no intelligent firsthand knowledge. I like your love that you have for the beauty of the Russian Red SKS, but don't let it cloud your judgement. I always put down the Chicom, SKS and thought them inferior till I bought one and shot it. I got it in a package deal with my M305 and I intended to sell it, until I realized how much more accurate it was than my Russians. Before you type do us all a nod of respect and try and prove what you wanna say rather than going ahead and just speaking without the knowledge to back up what you are trying to yap about..

I want a Chicom SKS so bad now since I have been told the Chinese SKS is so superior. Are Chicom SKS all the same or do I look for a certain type

#1. Following the You Tube video series (I used Sailor Curt's 5 parter) on disassembling and polishing, as well as modifying the sear, and then re-assembling the SKS trigger with lighter Wolff Springs. The trigger is safer now and a pleasure to shoot.
#2. The recoil buffer I installed on the back of the top action cover really reduces the vibration and harshness from the spring hitting the rear of the action.
#3. The Murray stainless firing spring with spring eliminates, (with a modicum of maintenance), the possibility of slam fires.
#4. I like the tritium front sight on my SKS, works well with the white on the rear sight in dim light...

Note that if you're firing the cheap surplus corrosive ammo with hard primers, you can't use a Murray's firing pin.

Loading it with ammo, and shooting it. People who mod sks's are the same people who mod dodge neons.

I watched a street racing documentary, where a guy refused to race his newly imported Nissan skyline against a neon. His quote" I am not racing you because I don't want my $100000 car to lose to your $10000 car". The guys who don't modify their sks at least for length of pull are crazy or midge.... er little people. Take off the bayo, trigger job, ejection mod, tech sights. I may still get a buffer and a spring for the firing pin, and a ventilated hand guard (they look badass, I mean they cut down on weight).

- M4 recoil/grip pad
- 3M cheek pad
- Remington sling
- Hogue Glock slip on grip
- Magpul handstop
- Painted handgaurd rail
- 10lb S-carabiner
- NC-Star short muzzle brake

Unseen mods:
- Pistol grip/trigger group removal mod
- Weights added to tube in buttstock for weight balance
- Tape under stock slide to better secure/stop movement.

I tapco'd, scout scope mounted a red dot, changed the mag, all that. Made it too damn heavy and was not balanced at all. The rifle is not super accurate any ways and the heat off the rifle pretty much cooked the red dot. That and the bolt slamming into the chamber directly beneath the mount. The tapco mag was junk. I sold all that crap and used the $ for ammo. The only thing it wears now is a gel rubber butt pad that increases the LOP, cuz the stock is so short and the butt is hard steel. Its awesome now. These things may look cool all dressed up but they are made to do one thing: Send Lead Downrange.
Invest in ammo, and thoroughly clean it when you are done shooting it. Lube/ Repeat.

Actually,
1. The Tapco mags are only junk to those who cannot analyze and remedy any simple hiccups that may occur. Really simple stuff.
2. SKS' were not made to send lead down range. They were made to send FMJ rounds at enemy combatants.
3. LOP improvement, sure, but using a rubber pad to cover up the non exsistant recoil is unwarranted. Hell, you can shoot my M38 with x54 and see what that steel plate feels like in your shoulder and compare if you like.

EL that looks friggen awesome!!

They are all cheap that's why they are under 200 bucks, use and abuse then sell and then buy another one, if they were a grand who would buy one
