Ok, so for ever now I have wanted a 1911 style pistol. I currently own a XD-40.
I think I am going to get myself one of them BUL M-5 Pistols but what caliber should I get it in? Should I go for .40 since I already have plenty of ammo and will only have to get 1 type in the future, or should I get .45 or 9mm?

What do you guys think?

since you didn't say you reload for .40 I'd say get another calibre. My vote is for 9mm (cheaper to shoot).

edit: Levi doesn't 97B only come with wood grips?

Since you already have a .40, get the .45. And then go get a 9mm.

Once you've got those three, then go get a .357SIG, or conversion barrel for the XD.

That was easy, wasn't it?

What do you want to use it for? If just informal plinking, buy what you want. If IPSC go .45 , you will be shooting major with a gun that has easily acquired parts(a 9mm is minor and scores a little lower and both a 9mm and a.40 needs some special parts)this becomes important if you shoot lots and lots of ammo. Editted - I just checked out the marstar site and the BUL M5 has a large amount of it's own special parts get whatever caliber you think is best. If you go to a double action to shoot "production" .40 seems to be the caliber of choice in my area(I think due to lots of police empty cases for reloading). If you are going to be shooting a lot , reloading is the answer to cost of ammo , it isn't really cheaper because you just shoot a lot more.

.45= man's gun:D After I shot once and now I really want one. 9mm is just a little more fun than .22. Not enough to feed my soul:D

45 ACP is certainly not for the fruggle but that being said - there is nothing like it.
My WC will out shoot at least in my hands most 9mm-40S&W.

If we could have mags over ten rounds, I would get a 9mm double stack Para Ordnance. Since we can't have mags over ten rounds, you should get the .45 ... best thing about a single stack .45 1911 in my opinion is that its capacity is not really restricted by legislation, since 7 or 8 round mags are standard. And you get plenty of "oomph" out of those 8 rounds!

If I was looking for something more exotic, I would consider 10mm or maybe 400 Corbon.
