I was looking at the IWI Tavor, do you guys know what I can kill with it?
Would it be able to kill a deer? Or only good enough for predators?

Thanks

Mike

I personally would not use a .223 on any game other than may be a prairie dog or gopher.
If you were to use it on larger game you would HAVE to be very conscious about shot placement. If you do not hit right in the kill zone you may end up wounding the animal and it may suffer for longer than is necessary.
For hunting deer or similar game I feel much more comfortable using a .308 or .300.
But I'm sure that the .223 will kill most anything you shoot with it.

Check out the upper right portion of you're screen where it says "search" in the cgn toolbar. You will find more than enough info on the 223 adequacies or lack there of for hunting bigger game.
P.S. this isn't sarcasm:cool:

a simple search would give you the answer..... this question gets asked on a daily basis.

.22 caliber rifles are only really ment for small game up to wolves, coyotes not deer as mentioned there are better choices for medium/large game.

In Ontario you could legally hunt a moose with a .223 caliber rifle (correct me if I'm mistaken), but I'd hesitate to shoot anything larger then a coyote with one.

If a person really knows thier gun and its capabilities and limitations, they can use it for big game too( deer) . Big bores does not mean much if bullet placement is not right. Not much difference between a .223 and .243 or a 25-20 and these are seen as acceptable for big game.

I just got home from shooting approx. 50 gophers with my .223 rifle.
That's what it works perfect on. My buddy was using his SKS on them, that was fun!
Go for 243 caliber and up for deer, please. There's no need for needlessly making the shot more difficult than it need be.

Shot placement is everything. My first high power rifle deer was taken with a .22-250. Not what I would prefer but definitely capable. My suggestion would be if you have a choice to go for a .308. If you have the money for a Tavor you have the money for a decent hunting rifle as well.

I expect enforcement officials will go the extra mile checking you out.

also, and of course:
Under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot possess
any clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a
semi-automatic centre fire rifle unless that clip/magazine
has been specifically exempted, pursuant to the Firearms
Regulations.

The 5.56 was not designed to KILL, but rather WOUND. The gun he was talking about is a military firearm, which is meant to shoot FMJ rounds, not hunting rounds with hollow points, or soft points. The military uses 5.56 FMJ to wound, rather than kill the enemy.

That's why the military are now trained to shoot in the arms and legs only! Heaven forbid they hit a major artery.
