I killed my first deer with a bow and arrow. A plain jane fibreglass bow with 40# draw weight, using wooden arrows and sharp bodkin broadheads. I was 13 and not old enough to have a gun (parents didn't hunt).
Remington Nylon 66 .............. .......... and I had my ass kicked BIG TIME.
At the ripe old age of 12 or so we were out shooting grouse when a whitetail buck jumped up. A single shot through the heart at 25 - 30 yards and he piled up within 100 feet.
Have since used a .44 Mag, .450 Alaskan ( 45 cal. .348 case Wildcat in the Mod. 71 Win. lever) .270, .30-06, .30-30, .308, 35 Whelen, .264 Win Mag and a .25-06.
Firt deer was a 2x2 nice buck with bow and arrow. I remember I was so nervous I could see the arrow jump on its rest. I had to wait about 10 min before he gave me a nice shot. When I pulled though, everything settled down Nice clean lung shot. I'll remember this one for a long time.
First deer with a rifle was with a 30-30 marlin 336.
First moose should be with tikka stainless .270 using 140gr premium safari (rem). i'm leaving next friday  , man I can't stop thinking about it.
Browning Gold Medallion .300 Win Mag - 180 gr. Nosler Partition Federal Premium. Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 in Leupold bases and rings.
Pays to start hunting at a later age and be able to afford the bells and whistles. Not that you need all the fancy schmancy rigging but it sure looks good in the pics  .
Second deer, same rifle. Then I sold it because it was just too darned purty to keep taking hunting and I hated having to worry about putting a mark on that beauty piece of lumber.
From then on in, only stainless and synthetic for me.
