I bought this .30-06 rifle today. I had it to the range and it shot about 3 inch groups. Of course I blame myself, the scope and the ammo as I'm sure it'll do at least 2 7/8 inch groups, but I got it for a price I couldn't refuse. ;)

There are no real markings on it anywhere, but it does have a Parker Hale adjustable trigger. The barrel is marked Midland, made in England. I'm not familar at all with these, would Midland be an importer and does this look like a P.H.?

The reciever looks like a hybrid Mauser/Enfield, the bolt has a controlled feed 3/4 length claw extractor with a locking lug on the rear of the bolt and two lugs on the front. The bottom metal is fancy, with a rams head and scroll marks on the floorplate and scroll marks on the trigger guard. The stock appears to be walnut with a cheekpiece, I think pressed checkering and whiteline spacers with a buttplate, no pad. I thought the P.H. rifles I've seem were all Mausers or Enfields, I've never seen one like this. Any thoughts?

Looks like an 03 Springfield bolt to me to me. How many grooves in the barrel? I'm not certain but I think P H used only Mausers. FWIW --- John303.

That is a Midland rifle, marketed by PH.
The bolt is from a US 03 Springfield rifle, and the receiver is designed to accept this bolt.
It is sort of a Springfield/Mauser cross, you might say.
Some were decent shooters, some were so-so, depending, I suspect, on barrels, bedding, etc.
They do not demand high prices, but should be a serviceable hunting rifle.

Check the crown on your barrel.
I've owned a few of the Midland PH's and most shot MOA or slightly above.
Go easy on the ejector as this part is prone to breakage and a real PITA to find. I've had to modify Mauser 98 ejectors to get them back up and running.

Thanks guys!

My winter project will be to refinish the stock, float the barrel and put on a better scope. As she sit's, I feel comfortable taking a shot out to about 150 yards. :)

Don't expect it to shoot very well after floating the barrel.
All those types of rifles were designed to be shot with pressure under the barrel, at the forestock.
