What do you guys think of my new Kel Tec sub 2000 (Glock) 9mm?

I ordered it from Red Lion and had it shipped to a USA friend who forwarded it to me.

I posted on the Kel Tech user forums. Apparently the safety issue is a common problem and is fixed by working the safety a few hundred times! I will try it tonight and see if it fixes it.

mines a lemon :( had to put a zap strap on the safety to keep it from engaging, after 500 rounds it still has horrible fte's and double feeds. ive tried multiple different brands and weights of ammo and nothing would help. it sucks because i really like this gun and had high hopes for it. hopefully it can be remedied.

Hi guys... just an update that I had a successful range day on Sunday. 100 rounds down the tube at 50 yards, all hitting within 6 inches, and the majority within 3 inches or less as I got used to the rifle! It is definitely a very accurate little rifle and the recoil is very light. I suspect the recoil buffer is helping. I did experience 3 FTEs out of 100 shots. All three were from the factory supplied 10-round Glock magazine. 2 were from the last round, 1 was from the second last round, which also caused the last round's bullet to get pushed partly into its casing. I shot the "stubbie" anyway :) Loading that magazine was also difficult... talk about a stiff spring! I could only get 9 rounds into it. The two KCI mags were faultless! I was shooting Blazer Brass 115 grain FMJ, but I think I will try some AE 147 grain FMJ until she's broken in some more. Thankfully, I didn't experience the dreaded safety gremlin that's plagued some of the newer S2Ks. Cleaning was a snap compared to my other semi-autos, and dirty she was! (thank God for simplicity in design!). All in all, I love this rifle!

My Sightmark QD "Quick Shot" reflex sight ran out of batteries after half-an-hour, and low and behold, takes those hard-to-find AG5 button batteries (think watch batteries)! When it was working, it was aiming 1.5 inches to the right of the bulleye and I ran out of left adjustment clicks. :( Not sure how to fix that. Ironically, the "iron" sights were bang on and provided very good visibility. I don't think this rifle really needs any kind of scope for the ranges it is intended to be used, but I went ahead and ordered a 100 pack of those stinking useless button batteries from a Hong Kong based seller. I should get them in 2 weeks, I hope. I will likely use the Sightmark QD reflex sight on another rifle. It does seem robust and well made... with a nice bright sight picturre.

BTW, the gen 2 Kel-Tec quad rail is rock solid and holding firm.

Sounds like you're getting good accuracy out your subby too. I think you'll like the AE 147gr. (I'll be back in the local gun shop stocking up on 147gr AE this Friday.) I had a very good session with AE 147gr the other day in my sub2k as it showed decent accuracy at 50 and 100 meters with a MV averaging around of 980 fps. 50m groups were between .75" to 1.3" and 100m groups were between 2" to 3"; which is good considering I was doing the shooting. I shot 2 boxes of 50 with no problems out of my Beretta mags. I did try it out at 200 meters, but it's not something I will bother doing again, the bullet drop was silly, but I did manage to ring steel most of the time. You mentioned stiff mag springs: If you don't already have a UpLULA loader I strongly recommend them, it sounds lame, but it makes reloading pistol mags much quicker and much more pleasant.

You'll never get your bicycle tire pumped up using that.

Kind of like the Sten without the aesthetic beauty.
I suppose it has to grow on you.
It wouldn't stop me from trying one and that is what would sell it in the end.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... functional aesthetics is what does it for me. It's really well made and while I will always prefer nice hardwood and laminate, polymer is winning me over... no nonsense, no dents, no rust... and the bolt assembly is more robust than any rifle I have ever seen. Shoot one that has been properly broken in and you'll want one. I thought they were cheap junk until I held one and fired it. There's a reason why they sell so well and so few end up on EE.

I could install one of those 12-volt portable compressors on the quad rail... but I'm trying to keep the weight down. :)

Funny thing about Keltec is that they are all about the engineering.
Had an RFB, loved it but sold it.
Have an SU16. Why didn't anyone else come up with the idea???
As funny as the 2000 looks, I have no doubt that were I to try one, I will probably have one shortly after.

I suppose the only thing stopping me looking right now is the SU16 does such a good job filling in the truck gun/lightweight carbine so well that I can't justify a pistol caliber carbine.:)
