What Do You Look For in a Black Rifle?

Why is the norinco not in there? It is just as good as those at half the price or less

Because the data is probably from an American chart, due to an embargo they are not privileged to the awesomeness that is Norinco;)

What do you think about the chart? Im looking to get my first AR, Thanks.

It is old data gathered for personal use that a guy posted online years ago. It was only as accurate as the info he could gather at the time.
Now so much has changed and so many models have changed at this point in time it is worthless.

Looking at carbines right now I think that there there are some great entry level starter rifles for under or around a grand (Norinco, DPMS, Windham), some real bargains for $1250 ish (Stag) and by $1700 you are in a solid fight for your life rifle (BCM, Colt) once you get past $2000 you start spending big money looking for a premium rifle, that might make sense if you were spending others money.

It is only through hands on use that you will learn what you really want, and for very, very few people it will be a $4000 safe queen.

If you believe that then you know far less than you think you do. Nothing about a Norc is per spec as some listed in the chart. If you want a REPLICA rifle buy a Norc, if you want the real deal, buy according to the chart and stick to the left side.

I have shot 150 rounds through my norc with no issues except one ftf. And my coworker has one with 500 rounds through it.

looks are more important then reliability? No point on buying a ###y rifle if it wont go bang lol

Not at all. If you continue reading you will find I look at fit and function, reliability and durability.

But if there is only one. Its non-restricted.

Once you shoot a quality AR you will understand why no one doing a serious evaluation and comparison of AR's would bother putting a Norinco on the chart. I'm surprised Olympic and DPMS made it on there actually but both of those are way ahead of a Norinco.
There is nothing wrong with a Norinco for general play and testing the AR waters but 99% of people will move up the list once they figure out if they like them.
Please don't say a Norinco is as good as any of those rifles, you may have the opinion that it's good enough for what you want it for, they can be fairly reliable but it is built cheaply and isn't even half the rifle of the AR's on the left side of the chart. If it was there would be professionals using them but can you honestly say that if given the choice you would take it over the others and trust it to defend your family in a life or death situation? If you say yes you are delusional or don't care much for your loved ones.

Ya, I agree.

Impressive indeed.

Well put. ;)

For me, a black rifle has to be a tiny package, if I want something 9lbs and three feet long I'm carrying a precision rifle not a black rifle. My primary use for my black rifles is off range, so no restricteds, as I use my non-restricted semis for our winter wolf hunting.

Since you're travelling a lot doing that, small, handy, tough, and accurate are my criteria and all are of equal importance. I want it to be STANAG compliant for ease of sourcing cheap, drop free mags.

I would not be happy with 2" at 100

You entered the wrong forum. Precision rifles is farther down. This forum is about BLACK RIFLES. You know the kind that get dirty and yet keep on firing, the kind that are handy to shoot while on the move, the kind that are meant to hit the centre of mass of two legged targets. Obviously having us restricted to ranges with our ARs is having an effect...
