what do you think about the quality of M14?

I've purchased three, one of them was for a friend, but I did strip it down and clean it and inspect it before he took it home. The quality is reasonable, and value is excellent. Most of what is deficient, can be remedied for next to nothing. Incorrectly indexed barrels, ill fitted wood, poorly machined sights that may be crooked or non-symetrical. The guns are not blueprinted, and components tightly fitted. That's your job if you care to. Its the upgrading to a scope, changing stock and other components that gets expensive. An adequate scope, good base and rings will run you $650 and up. But if all you want is to buy and shoot a functional M14, the $400 price tag is a bargain.

From were I'm sitting $400.00 for a Norinco M14 is an outstanding deal and a distant memory...

The average price I paid more than 18 months ago for these 3 Poly Tech M14s was about $800.00
The current market value averages about $1250.00 per rifle and that price is rising daily...

You are talking about Norinco price?

Yes, he is!

H2O MAN is our friend South of the border and if you go check gunbroker dot com you will see how much Nork M14s going for in the States thus you will realize how lucky being Canadian (able to own M14S for as little as 1/3 of what American pays):D

I have 1 side stamped Poly, 3 heel stamped Poly and 2 heel stamped Norinco M14s.

Norinco and Poly Tech M14s are basically the same down here, but heel stamped Polys tend to garner a premium price.

US is the land of the most inexpensive gun.
Why are willing the people in State to pay so much for a Chinese copy?

A new Springfield Armory M1A (brand) rifle will bite the wallet harder than a Norinco. The US commercial rifles have an indifferent reputation for QC. Whatever quantities of cheap surplus USGI parts Springfield once accumulated are all gone. Those rifles now sell for a premium over the current retail price. Springfield is now using newly manufactured parts (like China was) that could be sourced from anywhere in the World. So, except for warranty and nameplate, the Chinese rifles are "effectively" equal to the US commercial rifles.

Interestingly, when you buy a Springfield M1A, some of your money comes back to Canada. A foundary in Montreal has been selling receiver blanks to Springfield for years. NAFTA at its best.

Welcome to the addiction! Now go and dowload my free videos to listen to my stale jokes. The sound is goofy, but what do you want for nothing!! ha ha ha

Better still, register for one of Hungry's Clinics, you'll get the stale jokes live and in person plus as a bonus you might be one of the lucky ones that get a new joke out of clinic.....

:p

Just love my 2007 M305 (M14S), since taking Hungry's clinic, Sheila is now nice and tight, all done by me with Hungry's guiding hand. At the ranges she shoots real fine. feeding her .308 in 150grn either Winchester Power Point or federal Power Lock. Enjoy your new money pit....

Can't say I totally agree with this.

How many out there actually own a Norinco AND a Springfield to really compare?

Springfield receiver spec's can be a little out from USGI but other than that its over all much better quality than the Norc. Sorry, but it is.

The Norc has A LOT of crappy parts. Does it work decent enough out of the box? Sure, for $500 its great. However, after really going through it I ended up swapping out EVERYTHING except, receiver, op-rod and barrel. Why? Because the quality just isn't that great for the remaining parts. In the end it easily cost the same as my Springfield.

Admittedly I swapped out many parts on the Springfield as well, but that was because I WANTED to (ex. Smith vortex), not because it was lacking in quality.

Again, for $500 the Norc is decent but I think guys tend to go a little overboard with the Norc = Springfield thing.

I think that for some guys, half the fun is in rebuilding their rifles, just like a lot of guys enjoy customising or beefing up their cars. Good way to put in some time on a worthy project.
