What do you use for a "Non-Magnum?"

416 Rigby. It's not a magnum :D

Seriously though, my 30-06 shoots 1/2 MOA all day long and will kill anything I need to shoot under most any circumstances. It's my go-to rifle to stock the freezer in the fall.

A classic and a caliber showing taste. I have a Winchester 71 deluxe, my favorite lever gun/caliber combo:D.

I happened upon and purchased a new unfired "in the box" '71 deluxe carbine some years ago.....Kind of bugs me that it just sits in the safe, but it is just too collectible to shoot.
The only "queen" I own.

The B-71 is the outlet of much frustration....if you know what I mean. :D :D

I have to agree. What is it that makes a given load a "Magnum" other than the name? In some ways any round that delivers a healthy wallop to the shoulder would qualify. More accurately I'd say it's going to have something to do with the round velocity and muzzle energy. And given what I've heard about something like the 22-250 it would seem to qualify for the Magnum label.

What does "magnum" mean anyway? Larger then normal, or something to that effect (my Latin is pretty rusty). So, there again, what is the norm that it will be compared to? It's all just marketing anyway. - dan

Sweet!! I think if I had to pick or narrow things down to just one rifle to use here in B.C. especially, it would be my model 71. I can understand your reluctance to shoot yours but for me personally, if I don't shoot it it's history. Mine isn't as pristine as yours, I'd say 95 or possibly 98%. I've got a good selection of Hornady and Barnes bullets, ranging from 200gr to 250gr plus two cast examples of 232gr & 260gr. It will get use this fall:).

I've shot the majority the big game I've harvested with 7600 in .308. I've never seen it have an issue with moose or deer and I shot my first of each with it, so I'll be keeping it. The close second for me is the rifle my grandfather handed down to me, a Browning Belgian Safari in 30/06. Other than that my mdl 700 in 7mm-08 or any of my '99's in .300 sav are great to carry and shoot.

True, if you consider the cork diameter to bottle capacity ratio...:D

Must not forget the original short mag:D

Thanks for the edit Ted

.30-06 is my backup. I also use the .243 with 100 grain Partition handloads and feel the caliber is vastly under-rated. Can't say much about the .30-06 other than if I would have just stuck to the .30-06 and would not have experimented with so many other rifles/calibres, I would have a lot more money now.
