Does it apply to the Swede? This is the discussion.
Likely not. However if I was looking for a versatile out of the box factory rifle with factory ammo, I wouldn't necessarily be focused on the 6.5 class of cartridges. Its your discussion though.

Factory or custom?
6.5x55. What rifles are available? Tikka maybe? Probably CZ, Brass availability?
Last year I bought a 6.5CM. Love the thing. Not sure why all the hate. Consumes less than 42grains of powder. Uses 308 mags. Consumables are everywhere. Who cares if its hyped up. Its a perfect long range rifle to practice on, no recoil, accurate, low muzzle blast. I would like a 7mm rem mag in the safe, and will be what I get for anything the 6.5CM can't do.
Anything European.... Mauser, Merkel, Sako, Tikka, Sauer, Verney, Zastava, CZ, Schultz & Larsen, Sabbati, Bergara, Walther, Anschutz, etc... every gun maker in Europe makes something in 6.5x55, it's a looong list.
North America...Ruger, Cooper, Remington, Winchester, Howa, just to name a couple, I'm sure there are more.
Used market BSA, HVA, Parker Hale, CG, Zoli, Voere, BRNO, Heym, Lakelander, Krico, Varberger, few million 38/96 spotters, and thousands of target CG63etc and S&L M69's.
Really, like where could I ever get one? I have an old BSA CF2 in 6.5x55 that cost me a whopping $450 and it shoots better then Chuck's 6.5CM custom...no offense to Chuck or his rifle I'm sure it will settle in.

Brass, I use Norma, $60/100 for 1F from Tradex.
I’ve put less than 20 rounds through mine. I’d love to see your five shot groups. Laughing.

Nearing on 200 posts here and the conclusion here is that a 6.5 creedmoor does nothing the swede can't in the hands of a hunter other than be chambered in slightly different new production rifles.
Is that really that important that either side needs to get their panties in such a twist?
I though we were talking 6.5 Swede here?
I think there's guys on here that have been shooting the 6.5x55 for decades longer then the 6.5CM has been around, both for target and game, and they fully understand the difference, it's a step backwards in performance, but a step forward in factory supported ammo. Factory ammo means ZERO to any reloader, and the 6.5x55 is already mild enough.
The 6.5CM doesn't shoot better, or flatter, or kill stuff different. People have been doing all that for 100 years with the 6.5x55 already.
It's the hype around something that has been around for 100 years that we can't understand...."Oh, they put slightly poorer 6.5x55 performance in a short action cartridge/rifle?" Big whoop lol.
A bit of history on where the post originated from is perhaps due.
I was asked this question basically from my 12 year old grandson while we were hunting last fall. His friends were all telling him about the 6,5 CM and how great it is, and he asked me what is the difference, and which is better. {He shoots a 6.5 x 55 I cut down for him , I shoot a couple 6.5 x 55's too. }
I realy didn't have an answer , so we looked up some tables expecting to see super ballistic improvements in favour of the CM , which we didn't find., and this led me to just ask , basically why the CM has suddenly become so popular .
It seems both are more than adequate for our use, and neither has any real advantage for sensible range hunting .
I'll start by saying I don't own either, I'm just following this for entertainment.
It seems to me that the guys saying they like 6.5 CM aren't saying it's better in every way, they are just pointing out advantages to them presented by the cartridge. Things like many accurate new rifles chambered in it at a reasonable price, as well as ammo and component availability
The 6.5x55 side seems to keep saying that the 100+ year old cartridge is better because allows a few FPS faster and a bit flatter trajectory with hand loads. Then point out all the other 6.5mm cartridges out there that are even better the 6.5 CM with hand loading.
What it seems to come down to is hand loaders on CGN like the 6.5x55(and all the other 6.5s), and people who shoot mostly factory like 6.5 CM.
I don't see the 6.5CM dethroning the 6.5x55 anytime soon.
You are hilarious. Call any company that makes rifles, ammo, or reloading equipment and ask them what the best selling .264 cartridge is. I bet they don’t tell you 6.5x55 lol.
Just to hit this one more time because you don’t seem to get it. The differences are not trivial, one is better. And that’s why it’s more popular. If you want to shoot game at 300 yards and in and handload, it makes no difference. But there is more to the shooting world than that.
Want a semi auto? Creedmoor
Want a rifle that fits in chassis systems and takes standard AICS mags? Creedmoor
Better rifle selection? Creedmoor
Better ammo selection? Creedmoor
I have thousands of rounds through both, the Creedmoor is better because it fits in a short action. Period. More versatile and can to used in a host of actions and designs that the swed cannot. Check out any Fclass or PRS leagues. Everyone is using 6 and 6.5 CM for a reason. If the 6.5x55 had a competitive edge, people would use that.
