what does a 6.5 creedmore do that a 6.5 x 55 doesn't?

One of the nice things about some new cartridges is that they share similar ballistic properties as other much older cartridges. So we don't have to guess about how they are going to perform on game.

The 300WSM is close enough to the 300 WM or 300 H&H that we know that it will perform similarly on game as the older designs. Same with the 375 Ruger and the 375 H&H and again with the 6.5 CM and 6.5x55. Anywhere that a 6.5x55 would be an appropriate choice, so to would a CM.

I've seen quite a few pictures of deer, bear, moose and elk killed with the 6.5x55.

If the 30 degree shoulder makes you hard, then the 35 degree on a 6.5x284 should make you piss yourself, or the 40 degree on a 260AI.
Or the Weatherby Venturi shoulder, nothing sharper or more efficient then that lol.

Yes it does. Thanks for pointing that out.

Don't forget... I have repeatedly said that I think the CM is a very nice cartridge... just completely unnecessary for my purposes, with an M77 MKII stainless/synthetic .260 and an M77 MKII blued/walnut 6.5X55, in the gun safe. As a reloader and for hunting out to 300 yards the CM does ZIP all for me over what I currently shoot.

Probably will do one eventually, regardless.

I get that. Please understand that this thread isn’t about you. This has broader implications. You will notice that the argument for has been generally based on fact. IE it’s outselling it’s competition, ammo availability etc. You will also find that the arguments against are generally based on emotion. IE it won’t do anything my XYZ cartridge won’t I’m sure.

There is nothing broad about the implications here. People will use the 6.5 CM more and more. And we'll hear all about how good it is. Opinion is easy to promote.
But its still doesn't make it a special small-calibre hunting round.

Special isn’t the argument. Makes practical sense if looking is. See the difference?

This what the thread is about... that is before you ran away with it.

With the popularity of the 6.5 creedmore these days I an wondering why it seems to be so popular . What does it do that the 6.5 x 55 doesn't do, or what does it do better ? I don't get it .

I load 125 and 140 gr partitions in my 6.5 x 55's and my load books don't show me any advantages in favour of the Creedmore. What am I missing?
Pete

I figure, as does Pete, the question has been answered.

Yep fits in near the bottom with the short action cartridges. In a crowded space of which none except the short mags can claim to do much on big game beyond 500 yards or so. Practical has already been solved here times 10.

My personal preference as a loader, is NOT to have to load a cartridge to it's max in order to get the desired velocity and accuracy I'm after. That is one thing the CM loses points for me anyway.
At one point I had a 7-08, 7x64, 7mm Mag, there was very little point to the 7-08 in my inventory.
