What mods do you need to get an m-305 rifle to shoot 2 MOA with consistency? Presuming you're using a high quality scope mount and scope.

A fiberglass stock and a spring guide? Will that do?

Money is not the main issue but heavy weight stocks as the JAE won't help me because I'm looking at getting it for hunting.

Mine shoots 1 MOA right out of the box. Only put a ascope on it, and used 168 grain Sierra match king rounds, but it shot 1/2 MOA using a beauty lot of Federal .308s.

Before hunting down parts and mods, try different ammunition until you find the one your rifle likes. These guns can be finicky about what they are fed.

M305/M14 Accuracy

My M305 was already done up when I bought it, and it shot under 1" groupings with any kind of ammo.

My Custom M14 from LRB shoots 1/4" MOA when I use my own hand loads.
Sierra 168 Grain Match HPBT on top of 41.5 grains of IMR4895.
1/2" groups are common using any kind of ammo.

I've got $5,000.00 into this rifle.

Ammunition choice makes a great difference in mine. Group sizes double or more with some surplus ammo. 1.5" five shot groups at 100 yards in mine with Federal 150gr hunting ammo (cheaper blue box stuff) and some minor tuning to the rifle (bedded, op rod spring guide, weld unitized gas system). Downside is that I experience wandering groups. I can't seem to keep it zeroed with a scope. If I can see the target clearly, I shoot more consistently with the iron sights.

Mine also, it wants to track up and right, made sure everything was tight, but no difference. I figured maybe something was wrong with the scope, which may be, as I have not had a chance to try it on a different rifle.

Before buying any parts/accesories to improve accuracy do the following:

- Give barrel a good cleaning
- Check the gas system/cylinder for play/movement and proper cylinder lock indexing
- Check to see how tight the trigger locks up into the stock
- properly lube the rifle

if everything looks good at this point, try different ammunition.........

You may have to do some tweaking on the rifle to get it to where you want.

The most common issue is a loose gas cylinder assembly..........easy to fix this.........the proceedure is listed in the "stickies" at the top of the forum.

Also get rid of the cheap softwood Chinese stock. many shooters report accuracy improving by simple switching to an aftermarket M14/M1A stock.........best bet is to pick up a surplus USGI fiberglass stock.........

Make sure the hand guard is not contacting the sidea of the stock in any way.........

Most common Mods are replacing the factory op rod guide with a National Match Spec Guide, and replacing the op rod spring with a USGI spring...........

To go any further will cost more money.........you will want to look at head spacing/bolt fitment........glass bedding the stock/action.........re-barrelling to a match spec barrel..........

I love M14s, but they can be an expensive pain in the A$$ to make shoot accurately............

My M305 Shoots 1.5" MOA

I dunno what I did wrong, my new M305 shoots 2" out of the box with the iron sights and sandbags at 100 yards.

When I rested on a benchrest unit, 1.5" was attainable. Going to try some different loads and see if it will improve, mind you, I already have a sniper rifle @ less than a 1/4" consistent MOA.

So with the M305, as long as I can reasonably hit the targets, I am a happy camper! :dancingbanana:
