What exactly is the average red rifle owner?

While I have a number of more expensive rifles I shoot regularly, I always take an SKS with me and I always end up doing some plinking with it. I enjoy shooting almost any gun that works, but the SKS is special; It's just fun to shoot, and for that reason it's one of my go to rifles when I introduce a new shooter to the sport. One of my SKSs is stripped down and has been put into a light plastic stock making it a tough, reliable, inexpensive semi-auto bush gun that's decently accurate with an optic mounted. I also have a non refirb Russian that's only seen a handful of rounds through it, but it's proudly displayed on my gun rack. I also have an old 91/30, but doesn't everyone?

I think part of my fascination with the classic red rifles stem from the place I grew up in. I can still remember the sound of the Saturday afternoon testing of the air raid siren, a persistent remnant of the height of the cold war era, located a mile or so away from where I lived, and it always reignited the "when the Russians attack" conversation among the group of my friends. Any time I see a Crylic letter on one of the guns or a can of ammo, I'm reminded that at one point in time most of us believed that we would all be attacked by the USSR and would most likely die in a nuclear exchange and never see past the 1970's. I also get a strange enjoyment from opening the spam cans of old surplus ammo; the people that packed it could not have imagined where it would end up, and how many years it would sit hidden away.

Have yet to get a SVT-40 but it's just a matter of making space for it....

Leverarms has an svt for sale, pretty cheap too.

Personally I am cheap, I make a good living but not into spending big money on stuff. Yes I prefer to eat at wendy's or McDonald's. I own most red rifles and a ross but not the expensive .280 ross but the cheap sporter M-10. I think we are not poor just cheap and reliable people just like our rifles.

I'm cheap , but i pimp my sks with some cash...

I am still (unfortunately) living in Quebec. There is no way for me to make a +$1000 investment in a firearm that would have to be registered (and potentially confiscated) by the government. So for now, I'm sticking with a cheap red rifle.

Move out to BC get 30% more salary for 50% less tasks. That's what I did, been 3 years, never regretted it one day.

I own rifles (all bolt action varieties, except the SKS) that range in price from $199 to $4500... and my mint 2008 IZH import 1954 Tula (non-refurb) and my perfect 1951 Tula (non-refurb) from weimajack are just about my favourite rifles. One day the SKS will dry up, and the price will shoot up... as they really are the best value going.

Oh, and when s**t hits the proverbial fan (let's hope the zombie apocalypse doesn't happen :))... you know the SKS will stand the test, go boom every time, and you will have enough ammo to keep you going for years to months (uuuummm... stock up on surplus fodder before it goes away to). In addition to my trusty 870 MM pump, the SKS will be my go-to bullet hose! Now back down to reality,... the SKS is the most fun you will ever spend for $200. Period.

I'm a 40 yr old lady who likes red rifles because they tend to be well made, reliable and I don't have to sweat when groups of friends want to shoot my guns on my bill. I also find the old guns tend to fit me well and don't believe in messing with something if it works well.

I like red rifles because I look the best posing with them. Ar15s make me look metro-###ual. Plus, I like the smell of cosmolene. Smells like freedom, imported from a less free place, produced by slave labour. "sniffs" mmmmm, forbidden commie grease. Gimme a beer and let's shoot these off the back porch.

Got to agree with 5440..........all those AR/M16 types do look a bit ### after spending so much time in the movies.
On a side note...........have you seen the pics of that #### in the SWAT team who shot himself in the leg........tactically of course.
And theyre the proffessionals ................ROFLMAO

I am sooooo with you man!!!

I think it's safe to say all of us at some point have shown poor impulse control. Do I really need a 3rd SKS? Well no, BUT this one has different markings! And bam new addition to the safe!

Well, I for one just like guns... no matter what they are...

And also being in QC, I figured I might just as well own a few evil 'looking' one.
You know, just to piss off the anti's :pirate:

Beside, if enough people own them, eventually the general population will get used them... right?
