What factory 22-250 round will cause a 5.5hp engine to stop with one shot at 100m?

Make you sure you get it in the vitals. I would see hate to see that motor get away. Nothing worse than finding a dead motor in the woods, rusting away. :p

What an odd question to ask, but I guess recreational shooting is defined by shooting for the purpose of recreation. I think I'll stick to paper targets.
BORING!

Once my rifle is sighted in, I can't stand looking at paper through the scope. I need reactive targets! Steel, small rocks, small trees, glass bottles (where appropiate) and of course plastic bottle filled with coloured water and another favoutie, full pop cans, shaken.

I would love to kill a car, we were discussing doing this at our club, where we get a car going with a brick on the pedal, and take turns shooting it, the shot that stops the engine wins!!!

You won't need anything special. The cylinder walls are pretty thin on those to promote better air cooling. If I was going to play it safe I'd aim for the sump as It will be pretty thin too.

I've personally shot through 1/4'' steel plate with 40 gr hollow points, fmj, and vmax bullets and all of them penetrated quite easily.

The fmj penetrated quite well and even exited the 4X4 wood block behind it.

The vmax created the most devastating affect as it left about a quarter sized hole in the steel and sent shrapnel into the wood causing it to split apart.

Either of which would result in instant death on a engine.

Anyone in the area can watch :)

I'll post when we know what day. have to make sure my school, my work, his school and his work all line up to give time off when its daylight, lol.

Pics and maybe a video will happen, jsut had to have my video camera 100 meters down range and have me flinch or something and shoot it.

you guys must lead sheltered lives

hey jeff
put some money on this with your buddy.. if you shoot that thing in the cylinder wall with almost anything at 22-250 speeds, it will stop as soon as it pushes big chunks of cast aluminium in front of the piston.

have fun and make sure you have a back up shooter, in case it charges you.
oh yeah and don't forget to clean up the mess after.

Yet another reason for anti-gun owners to look on and pass judgement. I understand the recreational sport of shooting, but shooting lawn mowers, moving cars, and so on seems a little childish and destructive wouldn't you say?

Its the same as people that use the human silhouette targets at the range. And you wonder why some people hate guns? I guess we should all go out with our done up SKS's and shoot walmart mannequins, yet another great way to defend our sport.

Or sell all our 'scary' black guns, and stick to nice conservative bolt actions and paper targets to appease the antis?

No compromise. I will not change MY PERFECTLY LEGAL and HARMLESS behaviour because some anti somewhere gets their panties in a knot.

Well I think at times we must remember that there are more of them than there is of us. And with the recent shootings it makes the good and responsible gun owners like the majority of the people on this site look bad. With threats of the government instigating a restriction on all semi auto centre fire rifles, I just think being a stewart of the sport would do us all more good in the end.

I enjoy shooting just as much as the next guy, but I will leave my shooting to paper targets at good distance, moving clays, and animals I intend on eating, that just seems more productive to me than moving cars, lawn mowers, or human shaped targets.

Maybe so but by backing down, I'm just giving into the antis, and they'll start getting more and more demanding.

It sets a bad precedent when you start compromising with those whose stated goal is to abolish all guns.

I know where you are comming from because I used to feel the same way. But over the last 10 years or so no matter how good we portray ourselves or what we gave up to look like we are cooperating gun owners have gotten the shaft.

A new attitude has developed. Its selfish and sometimes a little rude. For all those who dont like what I do, #### You!.

Wow, bunch of boring old prudes here - sheesh. What now a lawnmower rights movement?

I'd use the heaviest Barnes triple shock your barrel can stabilize, shot at moderate speeds, aimed anywhere that will penetrate the cylinder.

A video and pics is a must.

The whole reason we are in the mess we are in is trying to do what would please those against us.....The fact is the only thing that will please them is if we turn ALL of them in.

Remember, they won't take your "hunting" rifle, they will call in a "long-range, terrorist sniper rifle" first......

Appeasement is feeding the crocodile, hoping that it eat you last.....

exactly. I like to shoot stuff. food, furniture, appliances etc. The anti's want our GUNS, and your choice of target isn't gonna change their minds.
