I voted 12 gauge cause it's usually what I got with me when I see them...But I will use whatever I got handy at the time when I see them in my front or back yard 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 17hmr, 22lr ( pick your ammo they're like pennies layin around in every nook and cranny ) so yeah, whichever of those guns I have sit up against the corner of the wall in the kitchen or livin room when I see them is what I use. But I use 12 gauge most often with #3 kent fasteel goin to or from duck ponds, bonus birds in the bag!

My bad, shot one tonight in my back yard with a #6 lead imperial out my kitchen window.

I usually hunt with my double 12 gauge. Buckshot or slug in the improved barrel and bird shot in the full choked barrel.

It's nice and fast for whatever I come across in the thick stuff.

I usually use my 20 guage, but my last one was shot in the head with my .300 win mag. (200 grain accubond over Reloader 22) It was an awesome shot, and over 50% of the bird was left on branch................the other +/- 50% was red mist.

Depends on the grouse. I don't shoot sitting grouse unless really need something to eat. Then it is with a .22RF.
Ruffed grouse on the wing, with a pointing dog, I usually use a 20 ga. Browning Superposed and Skeet / Mod chokes and 7/8 oz of 7-1/2. Sharptails in the early season, a 16 ga Browning Citori and an ounce of #6 from IC / Mod chokes. Late season Sharptail are a full choke, 12 ga proposition, and 1-1/4 oz of #5's are about optimal.

Most of mine are taken with the 12g, however Ive used all of the poll options at some point. My favourite for carrying is a 20g

Ditto! Have used various tools in the past. But most frequently and more often it is this sub gauge that I like to choose.

Got tired of almost bumping into various predators during my late afternoon/early evening small game trips with only a 22 rimfire in my paws and in the dusk hours wondering if that was a large wolf or a small BB following me in my favorite bunny spot.
With even the 20 gauge I have the option harvesting coyotes with a slug for bounty, or just a warm and fuzzy with a few slugs on hand, here in NE Alberta.

Cheers.......

Hunting with 22 or 410 alone in deep woods, infested with black bears is not fun at all. So now 12 G SXS with two 3" Rottweiler slugs in my shirt pocket. When with a group, 20G SXS is perfect.
