I suspect they said that because they don't realize how the scratches are oriented. They figure you got some grit in it that formed axial scratches. Wait until they see THIS arrangement. It's not at all normal in any manner.
I'm even wondering if it's cracks in the metal that are starting from the inside due to the pressures and bullets passing by.
Either way I can't see it being anything that you did or even that you or anyone else could have done from putting regular ammo into the gun.
