What happened here? (.44 magnum issue)

..... I called Murray Charlton today and they said i probably picked up a chip that scratched the barrel. ......

I suspect they said that because they don't realize how the scratches are oriented. They figure you got some grit in it that formed axial scratches. Wait until they see THIS arrangement. It's not at all normal in any manner.

I'm even wondering if it's cracks in the metal that are starting from the inside due to the pressures and bullets passing by.

Either way I can't see it being anything that you did or even that you or anyone else could have done from putting regular ammo into the gun.

It's really disappointing to just get a new gun you paid over a grand for and it's already going back for repair. I had to dust off the model 19 and use that this last weekend because i had a revolver craving.

It looks like the pilot used to cut the barrel crown got buggered up. Not caused by anything you could have done, unless you had the barrel recrowned or were trying to clean it with Makita drill...

Hope you get it back fixed.... properly, and in a decent amount of time.

What boggles my mind is people were saying earlier in the thread that besides the big scratches, the barrel looks to be unfinished but the gun was super accurate when i took it out. no sight adjustments at all AND with those huge scratches present.

Maybe not that surprising. From reading around about the factors two biggest factors for consistency that gives the accuracy is the bullet being the correct size for the bore and the muzzle crown being dead square to the bore axis and quite clean.
