What hunting gear have you bought that was a total waste of funds?

Over the decades, I've bought my share, mostly because I was being cheap. Cheapo knives, the cheap back up compass the needle fell off.
"waterproof" packs that acted like buckets, letting water in, but not out.

However, there are things I have tried that were not so cheap that didn't work out.

For me, the inflatable Miss November is one of those.

It's the wrong colour for deer in November in Ontario for starters, and it's also too small.
I did have one doe react to it. I stayed after legal to watch it.
The doe came out, hesitantly, stomping her feet at regular intervals, then turned around and left.
Using a doe in heat product on the "tail" failed to entice and bucks either.
Tried it on one stand for an entire year. Moved it around, left it overnight sometimes, it just didn't do anything to attract bucks.
Might even have scared them off.

Then there was the hang on tree stand I got on sale.
It was a good solid stand, just too small for my fat ass. The most uncomfortable hunting experience ever.

Anyway, what are your crappy gear purchases?

A turkey gobbler call. It sounds like a chipmunk getting raped not a thundering gobble

Turkey mouth calls. I have a gag reflex that doesn't allow their use

Duck calls. Every one I buy says either f*#k off or I'm here to kill you. Either way if I pick up a duck call you might as well pack up and go home lol

Dozens of extra "backup" rifles - you only need one. That said, I lack remorse over this decision.

Other than that, various scents and scent removers.

Ice fishing cleats....tried a few which didn't last but I've now aquire a pair of Kahtoola's that I'm sure will last years. Really helps when pulling a shanty...or when a fish hops off the hook and tries to get away lol.

That damned wedding ring!

No sooner was it on that she quit fetching ducks and beavers because the water was too cold.

I eventually got a dog for her.

It took a while to swing but was the best trade ever. :p

I know...OLD joke, but I'm old and couldn't resist. :)

I picked up one of those Dewalt heated jackets a few years ago. The way it works is that there's a special pocket in the side that holds a drill battery and there's a warming element that plugs into it and runs through the chest and arms.

It kinda works, but the part that plugs into the battery comes out if you move around. So inevitably while I'm walking to the tree stand it'll come out but I won't notice until I'm sitting still and trying to keep quiet. Far too quiet to unzip the pocket (which is on the back/side of the jacket) and hook the battery up again.

Fortunately thanks to global warming I don't need as warm a jacket as I used to. And really, the jacket works as a jacket without the fancy heating element so it's not a total loss.

Bought a low end Simons scope and after holding it against a Leupold at dusk I was back to the sporting goods store to buy a Leupold.
Hey logic lake guy, those cronies are over rated anyways.
Oops, I mean Chronos...

A Mastercraft (crap) Battery Powered Reciprocating Saw. Came with two 18V batteries that did not/do not last cutting through two moose quarters. Fully charged, batteries do not last. Especially when cool (hunting weather).

Plastic Handled Gut Hook, snapped after 3/4 of an inch.

Every year I pony up for my Ontario hunting and fishing licences knowing full well the money does jack $$$$t for conservation or the environment. Just another Wynne slush fund

Some absolutely useless fish weigh scales that rust up and die in your tackle box. Not sure what is wrong but two out of three shotgun shells never seem to hit anything.

I was almost to the impression LEH's were a waste of the reeb kitty.
Still not sure yet.
Dint buy any last year and probably not this year.
Win more on the lotto jackpawt even it it's a Lewnie oar two.

The mega dollars spent on Gore Tex clothing and boots on the premise it is going to keep you dry, total bullfeathers. Its better than plain old cotton pants , leather boots etc. Your a$$, feet and whatever are still going to get wet it just takes a bit longer.
