What is a Goat?

"The goat is a member of the Bovidae family and is closely related to the sheep as both are in the goat-antelope subfamily Caprinae."

As it relates to CGN, it is a mythical creature which some members envision entitlement to such a creature as a reward for reaching 1,000 posts but never seems to materialize (or else they keep quitet about it). What one actually does with one of these goats is between the goat & its owner is a closely guarded secret unless one wishes to share with the CGN comunity.

From what I can figure out, a Fud is usually an older gun owner who is basically a hunter who tends to frown upon handguns, black rifles, etc; basically any non-hunting type of firearm and their owners.
 
Fudd is a derogatory term for old school hunters and firearms enthusiasts who do not like anything that would be non-traditional such as polymer stocks, AR style rifles, etc.

If there is someone at your range that frowns upon your use of a semi-auto, thinks all black rifles are tools of Satan's proctologist and Magnum refers to Tom Selleck--you are dealing with a Fudd.

Goat: it may be a reference to the Billy Goats Gruff...don't feed the troll under the bridge (ignore the forum troll). Or if listed in the EE it's a spam posting advertising companionship.

I can see where you are perplexed and puzzled about the CGN Goat status and award.

You have to apply to the Awards Committee for the Goat Award. This Committee meets only every two months in the Winter time, but after Groundhog Day, can meet more frequently.

You should also include a 500 to 750 word essay on the personal reason for your Quest for Goat Status. Please do not use a lot of big words, because some of the Goat Awards Committee members are not overly intelligent.

An "old fuddy duddy" is a Brit expression meaning an old fashioned and cantankerous person who frowns on new things and ideas. As applicable to shooting sports, the term means a crusty older person who thinks the nothing made after a 1963 Winchester Model 70 ( in either 30-06 or .270 ) is any good and that anyone who owns a handgun or any type of rifle with any plastic on it is up to no good. A Fudd's ammo purchase is one box of 30-06 or .270 ever 5 years or so and cannot understand why 'them young 'uns' want to shoot that dammed dirty commie stuff".

As for Goat, well I will leave that to the more experienced members to comment upon :)

So a goat is as follows:
- a farm animal
- a status award to users with 1000+ posts
- a (###ually implied) companion <--- WTF?!?!?!
- a warning not to feed the internet trolls
- a tern used to confuse the bejezus out of new-comers

Did I miss anything?
