Hello all.

I'm looking to get a .22LR pistol for my first handgun. I was looking at getting my wife a custom made derringer in .357 magnum but the guys on here talked me out of it and I don't have the money right now to get it for her.

So we are looking at a .22LR pistol. I don't want to get a strange looking gun like most .22's seem to be. I'm strongly considering the smith and wesson M&P22 since it looks like, what I'm used to thinking of, as a hand gun and not a lazer zaper from sci-fi movies.

I have also been considering a revolver but I'd rather get a double action rather than a single action for ease and quicker reloading and unloading.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Double action quick loading revolver, look at an H&R sportsman 999, I picked one up near mint in the EE for 350 and it's awesome except for the rear site gets loose, reminds me I need some lok tite.

Im a leftie too.

I just purchased the Browning 1911-22 so get my girlfriend out shooting somehting that fits her really well. The 1911-22 is 80% the size of the full size 1911 and fits her hand perfectly. Its a little small for me, kind of feels like a toy but she really liked it, aswell it will fit the boy's hand too.

I have the M&P 9mm and i love it, i was looking at the M&P 22 and really liked it, i chose the browning to get her and him something to shoot. In the new year i will 100% be getting a M&P 22. Being a leftie, the slide release on the right side is sooo nice.

And the gun breaks down really easy for cleaning, no bushings to mess with no slide locks to be pulled out. Super quick and easy.

Thanks I will have to look into the browning, I have never heard of nor seen it at any of my local arms dealers.

That is true, but from my post I did say I'm not fond of the lazer zaper look, which I feel the Luger styling looks like.

Ah, alright, wasn't sure, to me the Neos fit the laser zapper look where as the Rugers that look like Lugers are one of the most recognizable firearms out there as a gun and not a laser zapper.

If you're looking for accuracy in a 22LR revolver, any S & W 17 series. Even a newbie can shoot 2 inch groups at 25 yards. For a pistol Ruger Mark III.

RUGER. 1000% percent RUGER 22/45 mk 3 is what i have accurate, reliable, simple to take down once you read the instructions or you tube it.

had one for years, has gone through just under 100K rounds, cleaned it maybe 10 times... only one of those times did i diassemble it fully... runs so damn smooth....

i hear good stuff about the m and p .22 as well, I shoot a .45 m&P so may get that as a trainer, but id still like my ruger

In no particular order:

Ruger Mke 111
Browning Buckmark or Challenger Series
Ruger SP-1o1 Revolver 8 Shot
S&W Model 17
Colt Woodsman if you can find one

Take Care

Although I do agree that they are recognizable they make me think of either the laser zapers in star wars, reference Hans Solo's pistol or they make me think of Nazi guns in the WWII movies.

By not listing any of the Ruger 22LR pistols as a voting option, this Poll is just as usefull as an emty gun when a bear is charging you

I do appologize for that but I am not familiar with the Rugers. I haven't been looking long enough and perhaps I need to. If you give me a list I would be happy to include them in another pole. Thanks.
