Luckily for me this poll thread got started. I am new to shooting handguns, and want to develop some basic skills with an easy to shoot .22LR. I will keep these options in mind. Thanks Guys.

I've had three different iterations of a smith and wesson pistol, and they all functioned awesomely, and all are more accurate than me. I first had a reasonably priced six inch barrelled 422 S and W with fixed sights.($300 with one mag) It was as accurate as I could possibly be.

I then sold it to acquire an up model 6 inch barrelled 622. ($350 with 2 mags) It was equally accurate or better and had better sights. I couldn't believe my luck. I had it until my cousin , (who I actually owe my life to for saving me in a really bad canoeing accident the day after my sisters wedding) said he wished I'd sell it to him. Whats a guy to do. Traded it to him for an old sks.

Then I recently purchased a S&W model 41 Paid around $950 with 3 mags( and HolyMoly!!!! I just cant believe why I frigged around with other brands of pistols first, and wasted all that money. Smith and Wesson all the way. I havent tried the M and P 22 yet, but I assume its good too.

here are my positive .22 list guns based on my personal experience

1-Ruger MKIII bull 5" bbl
2-SIG P226 Classic 22 ...or the exchage kit if you have already a P226
3-Browning Buckmark

your are right, however, I consider choice 3 (Buckmark) on top and choice 1 (Ruger MKIII) second, look for the MKIII hunter, period !!! those are the two best buy on the market !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta vote for a 1911... The Sig Sauer 1911-22 is really reasonable priced, comes with 3 different front sights, and adjustable rear sight. It's a real pretty gun too. And best of all, it's a 1911!

By not listing any of the Ruger 22LR pistols as a voting option, this Poll is just as usefull as an emty gun when a bear is charging you!

I thought that in under 5 seconds viewing this thread. What we have here is an utter fail. Ruger's really are the best .22's for the money. Some would argue they are the best value for the money in most categories.

Thanks for all the input. I must say although the buck mark an the tiger mark 3 are highly recommended and I have looked at those I found handling the M&P 22 is the most comfortable for a lefty. I very much like the look of the sig sauer 1911 but I haven't ever seen one at a local store so until I get to see one in person I'm not going to consider it too closely but I would like to come across on.

but single action revolvers are slow and plodding to shoot. They are OK , but I always get bored quick. Slow to fire, slow to reload. Nice to look at and display, but for actual shooting, I prefer a semi auto when the shooting is medium to high volume. The rugers mark I,II,III are accurate shooters, but somewhat complicated to break down and clean.(PITA) I just know that my Smith and Wesson would EAT any ruger for snacktime.

I keep a decent variety and enjoy them all:D.

I have a Ruger Mark III with bull barrel and a red dot halo sight on it and I love this gun. I also just picked up my wife a Beretta NEOS (futuristic looking yes, but the ergonomics are awesome) andit too is a great shooting gun, I would recommend either of these to anyone wanting a .22 pistol
