What is a good option for a 22?

Not really sure how to word this properly...

Contemplating a new 22. Looking for something that is accurate (not benchrest by any means, but something you could say hit a squirrel with every time at 50ish yards)

I’m more focused on centerfire typically, but have some up and comers that will want to start with rimfires. I currently have a CZ 455, but I don’t like the feel of it, or like the need for high rings to get a scope to fit.

I know most will think I am crazy but thinking of getting away from the CZ and trying something else.
 
Get a Dlask tuff-22.

It's a 10/22 built like how it should be. Endless options or stocks, barrels, triggers to customize how you like it, and deadly accurate.

I have one and love it.

Tikka 1X. Mine is very good. I put it in a chassis, but the Yo Dave trigger spring mod ($10) works without a chassis too. It made a good trigger great. Shoot it in the factory stock. Mine averages 10 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity in 1 7/8” at 89M. Lots of groups under 1 1/2”.
 
Not knowing your price range, but a good starter is the Savage B22 FV. Base rifle starts about $340 from ON websites. This is a 'heavy barrel (Varmint)' bolt action in Synthetic stock. Very 'ergo' stock w-pistol-grip, NO Iron sights but base mounts attached (I & many others have found they aren't loc-tited to the recvr and work loose!!). With 'medium priced ammo like CCI-SV, SK+, or Eley Sport I can get 1/2->3/4" groups at 50 yds. with a good scope (12 or 16X). Low price point if you have several 'up and comers', and relatively light weight.
 
If your kids are young/small...adult-sized rifles won't be a good choice no matter what you choose. If they're little ones, I'd say a Savage Rascal with an EGW rail for scope mounting.

Since you mentioned the CZ 455, I'm going to assume they're adults, or adult-sized. In that case, I'd highly recommend a Tikka T1x with a 20" barrel. I have a couple of CZ 452s and in my opinion, they're a far more handsome gun. I'll also add, I resisted the T1x because looking at/holding one...I didn't see what I thought was a gun worthy of the asking price. (in spite of my affection for Tikka's) However, I picked-on up..and since I've had it, the CZs have not seen the light of day. lol I've been at the .22 thing a while now, and have never owned a rifle that shot so many ammo types well. While there is absolutely no logical reason to do so, I'm so taken with the Tikka that I've considered selling one of my CZs so that I can either help fund another Tikka, or, upgrade the scope on this one. Only upgrade was the YoDave trigger spring, and if there is a trigger design out there that is easier to upgrade than a Tikka (the spring at least)..I don't know what it is. Literally a 5 minute job, including taking the stock on/off.

After an afternoon of sniping flies off of rotting pumpkins.. :)

Just about any bolt gun with a med powered scope that's been tested for the ammo it likes will meet your needs....

Lots of good choices... Tikka T1x is good if you like plastic but the CZ 457 is awesome, walnut stock to boot and less expensive !

Depending of your use there is a plethora of options, 1022 is nice also for a semi auto.
 
Another vote for the T1X, I absolutely love mine. Great trigger right out of the box, has been very accurate with moderately priced ammo and feels like a centre fire rifle in your hands.

I quite like my Weatherby XXII, made by Anschütz. I don't think you'd be happy going from CZ to a Savage, in terms of build quality. A used Walther sporter is also a good option for consideration.

 
I am a huge fan of Tikka.

Things to know about the T1x before you pull the trigger (so to speak).. The T1x stock feels suuuper cheap. Like cheap rattly hollow plastic sort of cheap. If you are putting it into a chassis it won't matter, if you are not upgrading it, the CZ 457 has a much better stock...

The ejector on the T1x does not inspire confidence. It's a basic little wire ejector.. Not that there is anything wrong with it, not that it doesn't work, it just seems pretty flimsy compared to the competition.

The bolt on the T1x is not nearly as smoothed and polished as its bigger brother, the T3x. It's to be expected at this price point, and I'm sure it will smoothen up over time, it is not like I would expect from a Tikka.

Other than that, they are VERY accurate for the price. With basic Eley Club, you can get near to 1" at 100 yards as the rifle sits from the factory. It's extraordinary for the price!

Nte factory 10 round mag is also nice, it beats the typical 5 rounders you see from the competition.

I felt the same way when it was new, now that its had 1000+ rounds through it, it is really smooth.
 
I've gawn thru 'nuff new rims and I still go back to my two Winchester 69A's.
One I keep for gophers when I'm invited and t'uther is the quad beater.
Both shoot extremely well.
Sold off most of the t'uther chit including the Ruger, T-Bolt, Henry's, BLR,
and so forth.
Funny, I just remembered the new Slavgitg semi owt in the shawp.
Need tuh pewt a set'oh glassiz awn it and try that fruck'in'ard trigger'in fewl owt.

I arf ahh penchint furr dem old skewl shewters.
 
My only complaint with CZ is their archaic scope mounting. But once they're set up, they're exactly what you want. Or just buy a used one that's already how you want it.

If you're not going the CZ route, there's nothing wrong with a 10/22 VLEH.
 
Another vote for the t1x. Shot 2-10shot groups at 100m last weekend, one group was 1.22" the other was 1.32 I find that very impressive for 10 shot groups. Ammo was cci ar tactical. I've shot almost 500 rounds out of it now and have had no issues whatsoever.

Very good. I like to hear of very similar results to mine with the same rifle. I need to try truly quality ammo one day.
