Hey guys help me out.

I am buying a TAVOR from CanAm and when my wife seen picture of it she freaked?

I expect this kind of reaction out of LieBeral gun-haters but never out of my wife.

She starting saying #### like people are going to think your a freak and only weirdo's would buy such a tactical/military looking rifle.

I tried to explain that it is a legitimate sporting rifle that can be used for varmiting and target shooting. I also told here it was non-restricted to boot.

She has grew up in a gun-owning/hunting family. I have been with her for 15 years, she has been hunting with me, been to the range and shot .22, 9mm and .357 pistols.

Why do people over-react to a firearm like the TAVOR....or is it TRULY scary?

The only reason that its truly scary is because of the media and movies. Its just a piece of metal, its not naturally scary at all, its only scary because these people watch way too much tv.
I'm serious.

Our innate fear of black people makes us frightened of black guns. Your wife is a racist. You should report her to the police, and have her start seeing a psychologist. Perhaps even beat her? Her attitude about blacks is so backward, she probably deserves it.

LOL, not quite that bad....yet!

I was hoping she would go to the range with me and shoot the TAVOR...but I guess some people get it and some don't...

Funny story...

She went to Saskatoon once on weekend away for wifes/mother's shopping getaway. Her and 3 friends. I asked her to stop at Wholesale Sports and get some Powder and Primers. 1 of her friends went in the store and when she seen the guns on the rack behind the counter she was literally "scared". If I had seen this I would have laughed....but I guess some people are truly afraid of guns....you know the same way other people are afraid of spiders?

Meh, I think the fear of those "black" rifles is all based on the movies. On one hand, they were specifically designed to kill people, not animals. They were tweaked to work in certain combat situations. No one can tell me the Travor was designed for hunting. Its a CQB weapon that was designed for urban warfare.

Then you look at guns like the Garand, M-14 and such. Designed for war, but Im sure that they arent perceived nearly as scary. People would take them hunting, they are stable and reliable.

Yet, they both served the same purpose.

I dont think we are ever going to change a public perception of these "black" rifles, but even educating one person at a time is worth it.

To me, a firearm is a firearm.

It's nutty eh? I don't understand it. Obviously TV and the Media play a role in it but really.. it is senseless.

I have a friend that hunts as does his whole family but is afraid to hunt with an M-14 in case he gets stopped???.... and it's farking brown !!!

Well, black rifles do look 'mean' and quite frankly that's why we like to buy em... they are like handguns, they just feel cool to hold... and that's just a guy thing...

its something like sportscars and motorcycles, logic cant be used to explain stuff like this...

My fiance is so good. She says "what did you get this time?" and acts interested to please me. If I buy too many guns too quickly (is that even possible?) she says "Ok, now you owe me a pair of shoes".

thats it. And this includes, AR's, pistols, SA CG, M 305, DPMS LR .308, 700P.

I am so lucky

thats love for you

The only way to change your wife's mind is to buy more black rifles and surround her with them.

Wow.. mine just asks how much of our money I've spent and makes an angry face.

My wife and I have an agreed upon exchange rate:

For every three pairs of shoes and one new handbag she buys, I get to have another firearm.

I think I got the better end of the deal, personally!

Tell her if the rifles are THAT big of a deal to her, that she can live without you.

Girls will do anything for what they don't have. Walk away from her and she'll come crawling to you!

Just don't beg to keep your guns. Its your damn right as a Canadian to own them.

For some reason people seem to be scared or shocked most by my 858 (or AK-47 as everyone wants to call it).

first impressions...

The trick here is to remove the scariness from the equation. I suggest applying "calming" colours (pastels perhaps) to the rifle and making it smell nice (fire-aroma therapy). Name it after her because "it's beautiful, strong and acurate". She's always right after all she's your wife. Present the "new" rifle after a shopping trip for her, when nothing makes her look fat and your gold! Come to think of it gold might be a nice colour...

they should make the Cdn Version of Tavor in either Green or FDE.

The only reason to make things black is that it looks good on the parade square since they don't look used and dirty after days of actual use.
