What is it about Black Rifles that scares people???

It's definitely perceived danger. All the bad guys use them in the movies (which is why the AK is so hated, as well). What they fail to realize is that all the good guys use them, too.

It's a stupid fear that is fueled by the media... It's ridiculous, really, when you think about how afraid people are of guns, in relation to how many people die/are injured each year by guns, compared to cars and smoking and alcohol.

Whatever... educate one person at a time.

I highly suggest if you are close enough for a day in Edmonton, take her to one of the Spruce Grove Gun Club service rifle matches. Scott and Kevin make it a very welcoming and friendly environment. Usually it only takes one time of getting strapped in behind an AR (or your Tavor) for the "those are bad, those are scarry" comments to completely stop and change to "that was fun!".

Once people find for themselves a rifle is a rifle is a rifle, its a big eye opener.

When they find they could have a use for something, the rhetoric evaporates.

If Spruce doesn't work for you, if the Sask service rifle stuff starts up (sorry, I haven't kept track of the thread to see if they are a go or not), check it out to. SR is really enjoyable, excellent practice if you are a hunter, and quite challenging.

we are visual creatures, whadya expect?

I say we start a counter campaign against say...long knives, tire irons and baseball bats. Stats wise I'm sure these are used in violent activities much more often. I can't wait to see the laws they write up: no bat without glove and ball within 2 feet, spousal approval of bat, proof of skill with glove etc... seems silly but look what we put up with.

Ask her if you have to get the version in hot pink with dayglow orange trim, or if you can get the much cheaper version in plain black?

As a matter of interest, My lovely wife Suzanne, won our 13 April Service Rifle match with a score of 169 useing her AR-15 Flat top, free floated, magpole stocked, Sako Barrelled match rifle. I shot 154 with my Match M-14.
Next match, 11 May Sniper rifle, any rifle any sight!!

Time for a divorce. :runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

Hey guys help me out.

I am buying a TAVOR from CanAm and when my wife seen picture of it she freaked?

I expect this kind of reaction out of LieBeral gun-haters but never out of my wife.

She starting saying s**t like people are going to think your a freak and only weirdo's would buy such a tactical/military looking rifle.

I tried to explain that it is a legitimate sporting rifle that can be used for varmiting and target shooting. I also told here it was non-restricted to boot.

She has grew up in a gun-owning/hunting family. I have been with her for 15 years, she has been hunting with me, been to the range and shot .22, 9mm and .357 pistols.

Why do people over-react to a firearm like the TAVOR....or is it TRULY scary?

Not just people are scared of black rifles.. When I pull out the black sticks, my dogs all go and hide, yet if it's my hunting rifle they don't care.
Go figure.. None of my dogs have been aound me shooting either..

It think it's just natural that black = evil?

I love my black rifle and if I show any of my friends pics of it they make a face and usually ask,"Is that legal?"
I will just smile and respond,"Of course it's legal. Unlike the marijuana you have been smoking for years."

my advice will be ,

go at your local jewellery shop and buy her a piece of nice something.

she will leave you in piece.

Show her the reasons why it looks such a way.

Tell her about the shorter overall length because the barrel is placed further back. Tell her about the safety and the fancy little gadgets.

She knows other guns. She's seen them before. This is something new, and things we don't know we are naturall afraid of.

Be a salesman!

When you get it, let her shoot it.

My Wife thought my AR was "frightening looking" (raised in Ontario) now, whenever we go to the range she makes sure I bring the AR as she likes the ergonomics and the lack of recoil given the fact that it still makes a "real bang." Chicks dig 5.56!

She's also laid claim to my full size 1911, .243, and MkIII.

She, however, has no love for my 45-70, 300WSM or my XD40.

They're negatively associated with the army and criminals, among other things the average citizen doesn't really understand or get exposure to. Re-education is the solution.

I'd just explain to her that when Jehovah calls on you and 11,000 angels are selected to go to heaven... only the Tavor can help you complete your holy mission effectively due to the compact and ergonomic design.

Gently remind her that sometimes "too much truth is not nice" by telling her in passing that she really does look fat in that new dress.

When she comes totally unc*nted on you, discuss how you've both slipped into making hurtful comments and taking each other for granted.

Then mutually promise NEVER TO BRING THEM UP AGAIN.

You're welcome. ;)
