I need to Vent here for a moment, Ok so I am trying to sell a couple of nice older, but well looked after shotguns. I give a fantastic written desciption of each gun identifying each and every minor scatch from top to bottom, the age of the gun and how long I have had it for and how much they have been used and what I have used them for. And on top of it all I'm looking for maybe $ 300.00 tops. How the hell did you ever buy a gun before digital photography!! Don't folks know what an A5 looks like?? Ithaca 37?? Winch mod 50?? Now I could see it if I was selling a pair of Purdeys for $ 25.000.00, but I ain;t !! Love you all FS

DUDE! I just bought a gun off the exchange BECUASE i saw a picture of it. I wasn't looking to buy but then I saw it and..... well you guys know what happen next.

I traded a minty BLR .308 for a supposed "excellent condition" pre-81 BLR in .358 without seeing a pic. The .358 is in poor shape - all scratched and dinged up, some rust and pitting on bbl & receiver and the rear sight is broken.
On the other hand I just missed an opportunity to get a minty Gitti 16ga SxS because I asked for more pics other than the one posted.
It's always nice to know the person you're dealing with or check to see if they have any positive feedback - that says a lot.
Otherwise, without pics, buyer beware...

I was going to buy a gun from a gunnut but location was so close and I had another deal going in the same town that I decided to take a look in person and drove the 3 hours. Thank god I did because the rifle might have been in great shape to the guy selling it but it wasn't even close by my standards.

Personally, I don't know what various models look like so I generally ask for pictures. Sometimes its what I think it is but other times it isn't. Also, I am like a few others out there; looks play an important role in trying to decide what I will buy and what I won't.

Maybe we should ask for pics of the seller... :D

I've been told "AS NEW" UNUSED" only to get the thing and it was a ####ing piece of ####.
Than you hear that a scope mount was stripped... and get the gun, and it looks like someone had taken a scraper to the top of the reciever
I dont give a #### whether Im spending 50 bucks of 5000.00 bucks, you better have pics to prove the gun is MINT, or I could care less about the "possible" deal when on the other side of the coin there is a possible ####ing waiting to happen.
I've been on that recieving end and could care less if the seller's feelings are hurt.
But on the other side of the coin, I've bought a few guns off the likes of Doug and such sight unseen. Some people you never second guess.
And I guess when you become the Grizzled old goat gundealer, you have hundreds of guys to vouch for you.

If someone is going to scam you with an inaccurate description, who's to say he's gonna send you an accurate pic?

The seller can do whatever pleases him/her, the only effect will be the price obtained, speed of sale, and level of satisfaction of both parties. Two extremes:

"For sale, one gun, $10,000 firm".

"For sale, insert long description of gun, including its history, condition, etc., asking price, preferred method of payment, any other terms, etc., and several pics".

How do you describe wood figure, patina, markings, etc.? Who would buy a gun in a gunshop if the owner couldn't bother showing it to you because it was for example "behind some boxes and would take a few minutes to find". It's not unreasonable to expect pics.

When selling, I always spend a few minutes taking pics and posting them. When buying, I always ask for pics, and seldom buy without them.

Post good pics with the add and you won`t have to deal with people asking you to e-mail them and your gun will sell much quicker.
When I sell a gun I post at least 3 good quality pics and seldom have requests for more pics and I have sold a couple of them within minutes of posting.

PICTURES SELL GUNS

I wouldn't deal with someone who balked at sending pictures if I asked.

I've bought items sight unseen and been delighted but once depended on what I thought were outstanding digital pics only to find some pretty unappetizing finish scratches on a slide that didn't show up.

You can do a lot with a camera. I once saw a magazine article with some breathtaking pictures of a shotgun. It was only when I read the author's name did I realize that not only had I seen this gun in person but shot it. Nice enough gun but not nearly as nice as the pictures.

Caveat emptor.

I have bought dozens of guns sight unseen, and done the same selling. But there is no doubt that most buyers, and virtually ALL younger buyers, expect to see pics.

They are an aid for sure, and if a person's comfort level is not there without pics, then they should be asking for them.

But like rembo says, sometimes a deal is happening, and asking for pics will knock you out of the running when you should be saying "I'll take it!"

If there are pics to be had and it really isn't that much trouble to provide them why ##### about?
Clay buster said it.
A lot can be done with pics......so use it to your advantage.;)
Do I mean mislead your buyers and set yourself up for problems after you've shipped it to the buyer? NO!!
But good pics taken from the right angle can sell a gun quicker.
Besides, if the gun is so good in your description and yet you won't provide pics people are going to question your credibility.
So I say post them WITH the ad and avoid the tyre kickers.
You have nothing to lose and everything to lose.
