What is it with guys needing pics of guns??

pics are nice but if i have delt with the seller or the seller has a very good rep i can live with no pics. i bought a rem 7 off rembo based on his discription and was happy.

I have to agree with Chappy on this point. If I know/trust the person, and I know what the gun is, then I can live without pictures. Otherwise, I need to see what I am spending my money on.

Remember the old saying, " a picture is worth a thousand words " ;)

Me too ..........

from Guys like Doug, Pat Brennan, and James "Stanway" - and several others here - I would buy sight unseen. From a noobie with few post and no sale record I would a least like to see the pics if for no other reason to prove that said rifle, or other item , does indeed exist, at least somewhere. LoL

I like to put pics with the ad, as a sales and marketing aid.

I think that if you take the time and effort to design a nice, easily read ad with good pics, you will sell faster.

I don't know how many ads I just clicked away from because I could not read it. - no punctuation, no paragraphs, terrible spelling, etc etc.

To me that is a reflection of the person selling the goods....

As you said,POPCAN, the 'key' is an easy to read ad, with 'GOOD' pictures.

For a great number of you guys, a detailed description of the gun as in model and condition, will, in most cases, satisfy the educated GUNNUTZ crew.

In other cases, as is with some other members (including myself) a photograph will, if for nothing else re- the actual condition of the gun, will at least show what the gun actually looks like as to its general condition and its
design.

Although photographs do not tell the whole story, they certainly help the "Newbies" to this forum as to what the actual gun looks like:)

Buying guns over the web should be just like mail order brides(wouldn't you like a picture?)!

Mail order bride says(Hi my name is Gatehouse,I'm light on my feet,a good cook, and a good sport)wouldn't you wish you had got pics?

OOOOOH what a surprise that would be eh?

I hate sending pics when I mention the gun is unfired in the box.....I understand guys wanting a pic maybe for a gun that has been used, but new unfired........?

Or a new scope unused in the box.....?

I think there are some serial gun picture collectors on CGN.

I've lived that one.....

"why are you selling it?" That's my favorite. Or, "would you take my 1978 Ford Bronco with no motor in trade plus cash?" You pay the shipping?

If it's a walnut/blued rifle, I try to include pics. Or if it is NOT in new condition, of course. But it does bug me when I post something like a NIB or new condition gun like a stainless/synthetic M7 or Stevens M200 and people ask for photos. What are they looking to see...if they like the grain of the stock paint? They all look exactly the same.

I appreciate it can provide a level of comfort to see that the rifle does actually exist, if you don't know the seller. Or at least that a seller can find a photo of said rifle on the web somewhere...

Digital Pictures Of Guns

I believe if a guy doesn't want to show pictures he has something to hide. I have been buying and selling for thirty years, and I have been taken by a few people that said their gun was "slightly used" maybe as a pry bar. There is technology out there use it. I just traded a Sako for two Mausers and I got pictures of the Mausers not good ones, when I got them one had the butt stock sanded. The butt plate was slightly wider than the wood. The gun was beautiful metal wise but the stock wasn't. I bit my lip and kept the guns, but I know that younger guys out there don't open doors for people, go to church, say thank you, and don't always tell the truth. If you don't have a clear picture, what have you got to hide? I have sold items on eBay for years, if you save for example five or six items that are the same, watch which one gets the highest price. Chances are the best pictures, and write up are what separated the men from the boys. I have a friend that was telling me that he had a gun and he said it was a 9 or a 10 condition wise. I asked him what the hell he was talking about, what happened to the NRA standard of grading a rifle. It wasn't anything I have ever heard about, it told me that he had no idea what he was talking about. Buy a cheap camera and learn what light setting gets the best results; we don't use typewriters we use Word and spell check. If you want to sell in the Access to Firearms, the guy with an email address isn’t advertising very many months, his item sells faster than those that don’t use technology.
That’s my two cents.

well let me think about some of the bad deals I have had:

1. a Marlin 1893 missing a firing pin and counter-bored on a bias at the muzzle.

2. From the same guy, a Marlin 1893 with a rusty spike for a firing pin and another internal part bubbaed or missing, I forget which.

3. an old (antique) .22 with a tang sight, that was missing an ejector and had a gouged chamber.

4. a Winchester 1894 with internal parts missing

5. A Squires Bingham 12 ga with internal parts missing

6. a Savage 99 with extra holes in it not disclosed by the seller (A DEALER!)

7. a Savage 99 being returned to me after the guy had owned it for six months and kept it in a damp place (but sent pics of the rifle from when I had sent it to him six months earlier)

And probably others. Pics would not have helped much in all cases, although the last one if it had been a dated pic and recent I probably could have seen the pitting and rust..........

Pics are a sales aid for sure, but if I see a piece from a trusted seller, or something that sounds like it should be OK (like RickF's example of NIB, for example), I don't waste time on pics.

Back to F S if you don't have a camera (like I didn't till recently) I've found most will cut you some slack. Pictures definitely are a plus though, for both partys I figure........

So I went and had a look at what you might have for sale. I found your ad for shotguns, and GUESS WHAT? There are NO PRICES listed. It is not a forum rule to post pics, but you surely do need to post PRICES.

So I am guessing that "some of us regulars" might be interested in your shootin' irons if you care enough to follow the forum rules and actually LIST A PRICE. Or if they are free, I will take the lot, and pay shipping to boot. :)

Have a real good day, eh? ;-)

When you consider the importance of fit, nobody should ever buy a gun that they haven't held in their hands. In fact, none of us should ever buy a gun we haven't test fired. (Nice if it could always be that way!)

In the real world, we have to take risks, especially if you're after a bit of a deal or you want a particular gun that isn't available locally. Smart risk takers, while they are willing to take risks, are only willing to do so after doing their due diligence. In the case of guns over the internet, that means finding out what you can about the seller and at least asking for good pics.

For me, buying a gun over the internet is an unacceptable risk unless the price is cheap enough that I expect I could get my money out of it even if it was a couple of notches lower in condition than that represented by the seller.

Strange coincidence that you should bring up this subject now, Fassteel. I bought my first gun ever this way last week. I think I may be the rotter that scouped the one Mad Dog was considering. Sorry, if I did Mad Dog, but I couldn't resist. I still don't have it to see what I got (great deal or screwed). I could post a follow up, if you're curious. If I got screwed, I deserve it - there were others asking for pics, so I just bought it, no pics, nothing.

I do have a code of ethics, though: I won't try to scoop someone else's deal if they bring it to my attention in the first place (not even ask the seller about it, in case he thinks he's got a bidding war going and gets harder on the original buyer). So there you go, if you ever want to make sure I don't scoop your deal, just PM me and ask me what I think of it. That way you know you'll have time to wait for the pics.
