what is it with people and HK

I must admit the SL8 gave me a good impression for a black rifle. Best part of it is that its non-restricted. :)

Mind you I always wanted a G3A4 rifle. Maybe someday when the laws change for the better I'll be able to buy one off you guys who are grandfathered now. :)

Anything that can be done to get those bureaucrats to stop FN us over? I recall C10 was supposed to "streamline" things. Sure. Streamline. Less paperwork from these jerkoffs.
 
I think people want what they can't get, and that adds to the hype. (Along with entertainment. Out of sight out of mind remember.)

I'd say the new HK sucks balls. The old HK came out with new innovations and actually contributed to the firearms world. If you were a civilain, you could purchase thier guns.

Now, HK is mostly revising on old guns. Now don't get me wrong, their handguns are pretty good, but their rifles have taken a landslide. Of the new rifles that do come out, they basically run a formula. Step 1: Take a military/law enforcement firearm, and jack the price 25-50%. Step 2: Take anything to make the firearm look good, and toss it. Is it black? Now it's grey. Folding stock? Now it's a fixed thumbole. Reliable? Now the low grade plastic cracks just from dry firing.

And don't give me the whole "german law" BS. If HK was like any other normal firearms company, they'd move/open production in other countries if the laws became too restricted.

If I was military/law enforcement, I'd definately look at their product. They'd be reasonably priced, and reliable. That and you'd get first rate service from them. As a civilian, I'd only look into their handguns. But when I'm in that price range, why buy HK when you can buy Sig?
 
HK pistols are great, the Mark 23 is probably the best combat pistol ever made. Their roller-delayed blowback assault rifles are stamped sheet metal for budget conscious armies but work and served their respective owners for decades. The G36 by all accounts works well, buddies that did their time with the Heer commented that it was practically maintenance-free, though of course their use was far from intensive. The Germans are kind of sensitive about distributing arms around the world after the little incident that occurred between 39-45 so the federal government tries to cover its ass with restrictive export policies, that's why you can't get some of the cooler stuff.

performance wise maybe the 23 is good... but ergonomically its a pos... seriously why did they have to make it so big and heavy? Its not vastly superior to the smaller more manageable USP Tactical in .45

Have you shot one? was there a reason to make it so large? Couldnt the original laser and suppressor be made to work on a small model? Its like some sort of over engineered German Deagle....
 
I can speak on the G3 and HK93 series of rifles. I've been very pleased with them over the years. They go (went) bang every time your finger moved, the roller action did reduce some felt recoil and they would fire in and after some pretty horrible conditions.

I had a USP pistol, sold it and really don't miss it very much...all things considered.

I'm not familiar with their most recent stuff though...

thats nice... I have almost 15k rounds through mine. I have more parts on hand for my USP than Nichols probably has in stock. Would you like a hug?:rolleyes:

I have shot it and wasnt impressed. I have shot the Tactical and thought it was better.

I use my USP in IPSC where it functions fine.

BTW, your out to lunch if you think the Mark 23 is a sucess, look at the many articles on troops abandoning it for lighter alternatives.

BTW are you an 88 with your 3rd SS div. Totenkopf uniform insignia that you have as an avatar?

My Mark23 is an awesome gun. Its not just some "little boy wet dream" crap, its a VERY accurate, and very fun to shoot pistol.

Its a big gun, but it doesn't bother me. Its not heavy, but a lot of the weight is in the slide, so its muzzle heavy. out of all the pistols i've ever shot, the Mark23 is STILL my favortie to shoot, its just a very enjoyable, accurate and reliable gun to shoot! Not everbody see's them in that light, but thats no big deal to me.


From my so-far limeted experiance, HK makes guns that seem to be very high quality, very effective and reliable, and easy to use.

Yep, they're a little more expencive.... But thats what you pay for getting a forged steel slide (or steel frame rails for the G36/SL8), and a match grade barrel that will last forever. Do i think the frames on the handguns are kinda cheap?

sure. (except the mark23, its got 2 enormous steel blocks in the frame that the slide rides on). but they work, and they work very well. And they're very light & easy to clean.


I think HK makes a decent gun, but i wouldn't turn down buying a Sig, Glock (although im not too keen on the grip), Beretta, Springfield armory 1911 or any other mainstream gun, as long as it works good.

I like my HKs. They function 100%, are bang on in terms of accuracy and, for exception of the USP, are pretty ergonomic. Love my P2000, Love my P7 and Love my G36. I also have a feeling I'm about to love my soon to arrive HK45

You have not fired a select fire G36 obviously. The G36K in the pic belongs to a buddy in a small British crew I met in KAF. This was a fun day to check their zero and I got to play. It is totally ambi and ergonomic...the recoil is straight back on auto; negligibly on semi. Keeps fairly tight bursts. :D

I carry an SFW at work...that is what I am issued. Excellent weapon. Also, I have some muscle memory with the AR platform.
 
The G36 was designed as a cheap weapon for the reunified German Army.
I have fired several of the variants in semi and auto -- and I still don't like them.

I dont like any specific company for hero worship, (except maybe KAC - did I mention I got issued a Mk11 at the new job ;) ) However a number of Hk's weapon system are supurb.
I still can't find pics of me with the MP-5 (maybe on desktop?) but at its time it was the standard for SMG's prior to them being exclipsed by 5.56mm Carbines.

The Hk416 and Hk417 put the M16 family into a new generation.

The Hk GL is also a impressive leap in technology

The Hk23 and Hk21 are remarkable quick change barrel, closed boolt auto rifles -- than can suppress and provide accurate designated marksman duties.


Now as for Hk pistols
VP70 series - revolutionary - but not very practical
P9S - great
P7 - nice
Mk23 Mod0 -- retarded boat anchor designed by comittee.
USP's too big IMHO - except the compacts - but they can shoot...
Hk45 -- I really wish they had listened to Ken Hackathorn and Larry Vickers for the final product.

I should have posted earlier. I do not own any HK...I have just played with them. My preference will be the AR platform for most work-related applications. The built up muscle memory is a hard thing to re-train.

I did not realize that G36 designed as a cheap weapon. I am impressed with its accuraccy and controllablity then. Do not like the issue sighting system...prefer the EOTech (specially in my present role).

The 416 and 417 look phenomenal. I would like to shoot one.
