What is the best brush gun you've ever used?

..... also, it would be hard to beat a 20" 358 Winchester on a Model Seven.

I just got this one from Why Not? Actually, it was his wife's rifle. :)

12 guage pump with an 18-22" IC barrel and ghost ring or other fast rifle style sights loaded with brennekes. cheap, handy, reliable, durable, foolproof and versatile - you can even pack along a few shot loads for small game.
you wont be making long enough shots for pinpoint accuracy to become a factor, and nothing bucks brush better than a 12g slug.

Brush gun

I think the original question referred to what calibre/bullet would best go through brush to kill an animal seen screened through the brush. Unfortunately, not many of us could answer that question from experience. We may have killed an animal with one shot, when it was screened behind brushy bush. If so, then the calibre/bullet used will be the best there is!
However, we may have been lucky, the bullet may have gone between significant sized twigs.
I have read where more than one gun writer has set up targets behind brush and blazed away. The results I have seen were that calibre/bullet didn't make a great deal of difference. It appeared a 45-70, or similar, didn't do any better than a 308/30-06. I think they even mentioned a 243, but I couldn't swear to it. Of course, we know a lightly built bullet, whether a 243 or 270, will break up after hitting almost nothing in the way of brush. I think the test was for normal hunting bullets usually used.

Marlin 444S in 444 and 1895 Marlin GS in .45-70, cast or jacketed handloads. Dropped a few Moose with the 444 and 'working' on the first with the .45-70.
May take a quick trip to the B.C. interior, east of Williams Lake, and hunt Deer with 'young son'. If so, I'll take the Guide Gun.

Not sure I see this "between the lines".

For a "close range fast handling rifle/cartridge combo" (brush gun) to handle deer and moose, I like my Sav. 99 in .300 savage with a 2 to 7 power scope.

I have a Rem. 7600 in .35 whelen with a low power variable as well.

I really liked both my Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 and 336 in 30-30.

Ironically however the closest deer I've shot to date was somewhere between 30 and 50 yards, and I had in my hands a 7mm Rem Mag with a 26" barrel...

The best bush shot I ever made was one I probably shouldn't have taken. I was using a Winchester Model 70 .338 with 250 grain Silvertips. 2 deer bolted into the bush and all I could see was white tails flashing through thick willows. I aimed in front of a tail and fired. The bullet went in at an angle just in front of a hind quarter and exited behind a rear shoulder with little meat damage. It blew apart the insides and made a mess and made a fist sized exit hole. I was amazed how much thick brush the bullet went through.
