Thinking of getting a DA revolver. One to shoot a few rounds on occasion. I reload and would do so for this gun. I realize that I would need to reduce the charge significantly with smokeless powder to ensure I am at safe pressures ie. 45 acp in a Webley. I want a DA/SA gun that I can buy the brass and projectiles for. Am partial to 45 ACP as I do have a gun in that caliber and brass is plentiful as a result but I am not set firm on this. Considering the following:
1. Colt 1892 - These are mostly 41 LC but can be found or re-barreled in 38 special. 41 is harder brass to find but can be acquired. I like the modern swing out cylinder but unsure of the sketchy reputation about timing and lockup.
2. Webely MK 1/2- Would be happy with either 455 or 45 acp. Like I said 45 acp is easy for me.
3. Webley RIC - Slow reloads (gateloader) compact and perhaps stronger frame without a hinge, can be converted to 45 acp.
4. French 1892 - Gateloader, sold frame, obscure 8mm caliber
5. French 1873 - Gateloader, can be done up in 45 acp.
I'm probably overlooking some and perhaps off my rocker about my concerns but that's why I'm asking you folks your opinion. I might seem biased toward 45 acp but I am willing to load other calibers provided it is not too hard to find components. I lean toward the Colt and Webley guns at this time but looking forward to your thoughts.
The first question your going to ask is what I want an antique handgun for. I have never owned an antique gun before and am not a collector. I simply wish to have a non-restricted handgun that I can shoot where I can discharge other non restricted long guns if I wish. I already have plenty of restricted handguns for the range.
Thank you for your input
