What is the best distance to zero 7.62 x 39?

I’m curious if any of you have sighted your rifle’s iron sights for 100M, and if the corresponding distances (ie. 200M, 300M, etc.) match up with the Czech surplus ammo?

I would expect the Vz. 58 with the 15.4” barrel to (or at least be very close) but I’m wondering if an SKS’s iron sights would match the ballistics of M43 ammo as well?

Yep, and I've had good luck with it shooting steel out to 500m with my 858s. It's usually within a couple feet of POA out to that distance. My CSA carbine doesn't come close to matching the sight settings.

M43 was the Soviet standard and that's what the SKS sights will be regulated for. It should be good to go once it's zeroed, give or take a bit.

I'd begin by zeroing it at whatever range you can shoot a decent sized group, I don't see how one can move the sight/scope based on a 2" or larger group.

Thanks, Stevo! That's good to hear!:)

I have three SKS's and over 13K rounds of Czech M43. I guess I just need to sight those suckers in at 100M and I'm good to go.:D

I just wish it wasn't corrosive ammo.:(

I shot a bunch of different brands of 7.62x39mm out of my Baikal IZH-18MH at 25M last year. The Czech M43 (circa. 1985) was the most accurate load of all the ones I tested.

I still have a few more types to try though.

i use a BSA sts4x32le scope with a reticle showing drop at distance (crosshair for 100, 200, 300) with a receiver mount (very tightly fit)

300 is possible but 8-10" groups are normal.. bullet tip only dented by the gong
200 yds can keep a 6-8" group
100 yds (once warm) i can draw happy faces
50 yds gravy.

my sks is waaay more accurate with bayonet installed and extended and a warm barrel.
they are often hit or miss in quality.. i have a good one.
