What is the best excercise to improve your shooting with a pistol?

Two words...the first is 'master' and the second is 'bate'. The fundamental exercise for accuracy and stamina.

Hey USP, I reckon mdbuckle must have good practice aiming and sighting eyes too....well with that tiny little thumbnail avatar he's been aiming his 'loaded gun' at....

hehehe

Keeping fit in general should be enough I think. Perhaps if one particularly needs it, training of the wrists and gripping would help.

You know...if you click it, you can see a bigger pic;)

USP, take some weights and very slowly bring the weights up in front of you. The slower the better as this makes your stabilizer muscles work. 3 sets of 10. That is probably the best excercise you can do for pistol shooting.

yeah IVe been doing that for awhile..Im up to about 55lbs in dumbells for each arm... fug I am getting weak...works the front delts I think...

Excessive weightlifting is not only unnecessary but can actually be counterproductive. After all, how many IPSC/IPDA/Bullseye/Olympic Shooting champions look like Arnold?

Like somebody else said, it is important to work stabilizer muscles. I would disagree with the 3 sets of 10 suggestion, however. Pick lighter weights and do several sets of 25-30. Heavy weight + small number of reps is a strength-building exercise. For endurance training, you need to do lots of reps with smaller weights.

Then again, how many people can shoot like Arnold from the hip, around his back without even looking at his sights, without breaking a sweat and looking cool wearing sunglasses at night? That and who else is strong enough to shoot a clover group from a gatling? :p
