what is the best lever action rife action?

I have a smooth as silk Winchester Miroku in 45 Colt that is my goto rifle to take on a walk in the woods. It is a lightweight rifle that's easy to carry, very accurate and with a 255gr cswc it has better stopping power than a 30-30 out to 150 yards. Can't ask for more imho.

Least complicated - pick a marlin or Henry

If you want frustration, take apart something Browning designed. He saw no use using a single part when he could use 5 moving pieces.

Best for me is my marlin1895G 45-70 that I bought almost 20 yrs ago. I had it scoped and used it for everything for a few years. It would shoot an honest 1” @ 100 yards. I have since un-scoped it and went with xs ghost ring sights. They seem to be more suited to the rifle and caliber.
There is nothing I wouldn’t hunt with that rifle.

Most enjoyable to me would likely be my .44 wcf, ‘92 rifle with shotgun butt. For plinking, woods walking, and up to medium sized game at modest ranges it is a pleasure. I have used quite a few 86s with my favourite being a lightweight in .33 wcf or a 71 in .348. A ‘92 rifle in .38-55 was also a great gun. Some common threads for me with all of these rifles are; shotgun style butts, lighter contour barrels, half magazines, and well worn (smooth) actions. They all featured rounds that did what I asked of them, handled awesome, and functioned 100%. Similar rifles with heavy barrels (‘86 OBFM), crescent butts, jerky actions, poor balance, etc have all been traded off. Even “perfect” rifles like my Browning ‘86 src I have trouble loving with the src buttstock and full length tube and barrel bands.
Best lever action rifle would probably be some stainless steel, laminated stocked wonder that I have zero interest in owning.

I've read that the toggle link action is supposed to be the smoothest. Not sure about that as I've only played with 336's, BLR's, and Henry's. The BLR's and Henry's are basically the same and the 336 is nice but not really smooth as you can feel the parts engaging and torquing on each other.

1894 winchester was literally built with the best design features of all prior models so 1894 from the mouth of Oliver winchester himself

Oliver Winchester died in 1880. I doubt in 1894 he cared much about the latest design.
