What is the best Match ammo for .308?

Federal gold medal match

For reloads you have to find what works but I once read 45gr varget with a 168gr smk 2.800 oal is pretty close to the gmm.

Thank You! Ifs actually one of the three I bought! Will try it tomorrow! Thanks! And I have target and 168gr Barnes ttsx. With lapua brass. Should be Interesting...
Tha is alot for the input

I only run the heavier 175gr stuff through mine.
Have had decent results with the 185gr Berger FGGM stuff as well. Also have some load development on the 178gr hornady stuff I got for free, so we’ll see how that goes but my vote always goes to the heavier stuff over the 168gr

Start reloading. It won't take long for you to recoup your equipment costs, and making quality ammo isn't difficult or expensive, especially compared to match grade factory.

Federal Gold Medal, Black Hills, Berger ammunition if there is a dealer in Canada, Lapua, Norma, to name a few.

I suggest talking to Hirsch and picking a few boxes of Lapua, that way once you start reloading you will already have top notch brass to use.

Another vote for Federal Gold Medal Match (often abbreviates to FGMM or GMM).

I hear lots of good things about black hills as also mentioned here, though I think it’s availability is much more limited in Canada compared to US.

As far as comment above regarding reloading, it’s worth it if you’re shooting frequently enough. If you target shoot the odd time, dropping the money on a reloading setup might be impractical. It also can be time consuming, though once you get the hang of things to can most certainly fine tune your load for your rifle.

FGMM needs to work in everyone’s rifle.... when reloading it’ll be custom to exactly your rifle.

Lapua Scenar 155 grs /167 gr and Lapua Lockbase 170 gr, i have over 75 X 308 rifles and in most of them these factory fodders are the best you can get unless you reload.

I buy my factory ammo from Hirsh.

PS: my take is that Federal GMM is good ammo but the Lapua factory ammo is just higher in the food chain. YMMV.

I've actually heard of those lapua rounds I was curious but the local gun shop he's selling a pack of 20 for 250 bucks someone actually bought them, a box of PPE use full metal jacket 7.62 x 39mm was 28 dollars, I'm tempted to go find some bulk deals and ask someone to go in on them with me lol, tho work needed haha

They are not that expensive, i pay south of 50.00 /20 rounds + tax and shipping.
Price is right on for a superior performance.

And the good thing is it can be used with success as a hunting round.

Seven Lakes,

These guys are serious about Black Hills Ammunition, and precision shooting 👍

I am gonna go the opposite route, its easier to pick out the bad. Hornady seems to have been having some QC issues, Rem=meh, and HSM has been hit and miss for me. I currently have a stash of Nosler which seems good. Pretty much the rest of the match makers are pretty good.

I’d agree with you on the Lapua being of higher quality, but man is GMM more plentiful. Every store I’ve been to that sells firearms and ammo carries it, whereas only a very select few carry Lapua. Strictly quality though, you’re correct.
