What is the best polymer handgun?

it seems most of the top selling polymer wonder guns have their quirks, but that being said, manufacturers quickly address these quirks. Who makes the best?....thats up to each individual shooter. Personally, I like the Steyrs...and this brand has had its fair share of quirks, but once they were addressed, these pistols were amazing. Glock,M&P,Steyr,H&K etc..., take your pick...they're all fine firearms if you ask me.

...and you are absolutely right. If one is planning to use the pistol often however, it would be wise to pick up something that the user can work on himself, with good parts supply. Steyr is a great pistol no doubt about it, but trying to find even a recoil spring assembly may be a challenge, not to mention trigger parts. Hence the popularity of Glock, even though it may be just as good pistol as any other.

Except for the armed forces from different countries that adopted them as the service pistols...and police departments and target shooters.

Yes - that was my point. They were none of them conceived to be range guns or target pistols. That was an afterthought

You mean just like P226, CZ75, 1911, BHP?
They all were designed originally for military and evolved later into many forms and applications.
The very same can be said about Glock 17, M&P or CZ P09.

Many former Glock fans have moved to the M&P. Recently I saw a YouTube video with an M&P fan who was falling in love with a Sig320...

If you're determined to have a polymer pistol, you have to try them to see what you like best. THAT is the 'best' pistol...not anything we can tell you here.

If you don't like how the Glock feels, try an M&P - don't buy a 40 cal, they're for guys with small appendages. (There's a logical argument to support this conclusion). Get an M&P9 and it'll all be good. I've owned an HK45, several Glocks, I've shot an FN and owned a couple of M&P's (9mm and 45) the M&P is a much more natural gun to shoot than the Glock, unless you're already 'Glocked' (shot one for so long you don't even notice how bad they feel).

Wait..what..uh-oh. My M&P 40 is my favourite pistol for fun factor and ergos, and shoots like a laser beam with the Apex trigger kit. I want a USP 40 very badly to go with it. I only have 9mm's for the cheaper ammo. Let's hear this logical argument.

Everyone is going to have their favorite. Their picks may or may not be yours.

My choices would be:

Best: FNH FNS-9LS or XDm9
Most fun: KelTec PMR30 (That thing is just a plastic giggle machine. Something about a muzzle blast the size of a small watermelon that gets people's "undivided attention".)

I had my SIG Pro SP2022 in 9mm and I was very happy with the gun, always accurate and reliable, smooth and soft DA trigger and short crisp SA, I will recommend to everybody who wants a polymer framed pistol.

Steyr M40 is what a Glock would try to be if Glock ever started to care about how they fit the hand or if they wanted spent cases to be unbulged and reloadable.

The ergonomics of a Glock are just fine, its poor fundamentals that are to blame for the poor performance so many experience with them. Blaming the ergonomics, the name, the colour, the plain look etc etc is an excuse for not facing the real problem... The piss poor shooters. Someone else posted in this thread something along the lines of "those 1911's have spoiled you" and its true, heavy guns with light triggers cover up your bad form. If you can't shoot a Glock, you can't shoot.

As for the bulged cases. Glock designed and builds service pistols for military and law enforcement. Neither of which use reloaded ammunition nor do they care about those that do. Use of reloads voids your warranty as well.

I originally bought a Glock 22. Never liked it. Traded it in on a G 34. Didn't like it at first. Then it started growing on me some. Then I replac d the stock monkey-poo sights and I start d to love it. Somewhere in that time frame I also bought an m&p 9 which I've shot quote a bit, but I keep gravitating back to my G34. It just seems to work with better sights.

I'm torn tho, I recently fondled a Stery LA-1 at my LGS and it felt gooood. Should I buy it now r would it be cheating?

Basically, the best one is rhe one that works for you the best.

I'm surprised how much I like the P320--the grip is the most comfortable on any handgun I've ever owned (although a comfortable grip isn't everything).
