What is the Ruger 10/22 really like?

I bought mine without any great expectations and was really pleased. It is extremely reliable and surprisingly accurate. I topped mine off with a 2-7x34 Redfield Battlezone Tac22, dropped a BX-22 trigger in it and have no problem shooting gophers out to 100 yards with good consistent solid hits. But I also find my Mini-14 shoots better than what I hear others saying they are capable of?

haha, im right with ya with the mini-14 as well!
ive always been mystified when people say they dont shoot well, my current one and my old one where/are tack pushers.

im almost to the point where i think most of these problems we hear of are all operator errors of some sort.....

As for the mini-14 my father used to sight in rifles for guys that did not have setup/space to do so. Over the years he said he shot a number of the mini14 and they ranged from mediocre to poor for grouping. There was one, however, that shot like a varmint rifle for crying out loud. I saw the target after he shot at 100yds and it was amazing. The owner was a good friend of his at the time. When the guy sold all his guns a number of years later he sold that mini14 without even asking Dad about it even though he had always said he would buy it anytime for a fair price. I think the guy was embarrassed that he had run into hard times and went to a dealer that gave him cut rate prices for his guns and reloading stuff.

Anyway, again the mini14 was not intended to be a tackdriver either. I knew a guy that swore by one for coyotes out to 100yds.....on the run....and he shot plenty that way......LOL

Speaking of shooting coyotes/coy-dogs/feral dogs (I have previously posted about the size of the packs of these that used to run the countryside here in the 70s...it was shocking) on the run, I recall back in the 70s a bunch of guys that used surplus 30 carbines that they bought back in the 60s for a song along with some 30rd mags and got many yotes every winter. They said it was easy to get the lead right as you just kept firing and saw where the snow flew....LOL Ahhhh, the good old days when hi cap mags and semi auto military grade rifles were used for hunting........

It's a real shame that there are no parts out there to impart a more authentic look...pity!
Too bad we cant do this.

I have a couple 10/22's, one that I bought used a bunch of years ago, and a target model that I bought new around 2013. Both are as accurate and reliable as any other semi auto 22 I've shot. The older one came with a butler creek folding stock, and it's a real handy little truck gun. The target model got a little fiddling to make it shoot better, but I didn't replace any parts on it. Here's a picture of my best group to date with it. 5 rounds of CCI standard at 50 yards. If this isn't accurate enough for a semi auto, I don't know what is.
