What is with the crazy prices on lee enfields?

This....there was no WW1 till 1917..and it was won by the 1903 !

To funny, gotta love that Sgt Alvin Yorks statue honoring his bravery has him holding a 1903 rifle when in fact he used a M1917....
Even in the movie made about him it was a 1903.

When it comes to the price of a Lee Enfield (especially at an auction) you pay the price you are prepared to pay, don't grizzle about it! it is what it is, set yourself a limit & stick to it, i have paid more than i wanted on a few items but always never more than i was prepared to pay & have never exceeded the limit i set prior to the auction.

A couple of years back i attended an auction to buy a 1935 Lithgow MkIII SMLE which would be a perfect companion for my 1935 Lithgow full length cutaway, after viewing the rifle i decided "i have to have this" & as i had just over $2200 cash on me, my decision was to "go for it" my maximum bid was $2000 which left me (after fees) with enough $s for fuel to get home, i was hoping to get it for under $800 was expecting (due to Aussie interest) up to $1400, ended up with a final bid to me of $1950 but one more bid & i was out, this is a very high price for a non Volley sighted SMLE in NZ but i frankly dont give a damn! i wanted it & paid the price i needed to pay.

FWIW the reverse does happen, different auction but around the same time, there was a 1911 BSA MkIII full matching original numbers (right down to the cocking piece) complete with Volleys etc, was hoping for around the $800 mark, expecting maybe $1200 to $1400 ended up paying $420 :)
