What is your favourite hunting bullet in 308 win?

I’ve had great performance with 165 Trophy bonded bullets in the 308 and also in the 270 with 130s. Shot placement is the single biggest factor in cleanly harvesting game!

I picked up a Sako 85 in 308 and tried a few different types of factory ammo. The Hornady American Whitetail 150s with the interlock bullets shot very well so we used it for hunting. The young fellow's girl friend shot a heavy buck with it. Hit it a little forward and broke the front leg, entered the chest cavity with maximum damage and was found on the off side just under the skin. The bullet had mushroomed perfectly and stayed together incredibly well. I tried to load a picture but seem to have lost the ability to upload on Imgur.

I have shot 165 Interlocks in my 30-06 for many years with good results so really not surprising. Just a very well made bullet that does it's job. These also are generally the least expensive ammo on the shelf as an added bonus. Maybe not ideal for quartering shots on elk and moose but bad medicine for Whitetails.

The Hornady bonded 165 grain was a favorite of mine for the 308 for many years and accounted for several deer and a couple moose.

I would stay away from the SST as I think it is too soft and fragmentary although it did shoot well out of my rifle. I think any bonded bullet will work well such as Nosler's accubond or Federal Trophy Bonded tip.

Since the Hornady has discontinued the bonded bullet (at least in the factory configuration) and I don't trust the ELD X and especially the ELD M as I believe it is just a glorified cup and core design with emphasis on long range accuracy and a lot less on terminal performance I have decided to go with the Nosler accubond as I have had good luck with them in the past out of my 6.5X55.

Stick with a proven bonded design in the 165 gr range and I believe the 308 shooter will be well served.
