What is your favourite hunting caliber and

I use and Iike the .303 British for any number of reasons , mostly because I get told on a continual basis that it is obsolete, not efficient enough or powerful enough as almost any other cartridge on the market .
Funny how at one time it was used ( and very sucsessfully used) for everything in North America and abroad but now it is somehow " underpowered "!Laugh2

There are so many really good rounds, it is hard to pick a favorite, I like 30-06 a lot, I do like 9.3x62 a lot too! I never been a ça of magnums, use to own a 338win mag and I think that for up here it would be a great caliber… I have a few 7mm, on 7x57r, one coming that is 7x65r and I will inherit a 7rem mag at some point…. I think 303 Brit could make its way in my safe at some point! I like mid 2400fps heavy for caliber bullets so far I think they are a good combination for little meat damage and good fast killing for the distances I usually shoot at games, well inside 300m!
30-40 krag could also be of interest…. Like I said so many calibers so little money and time!!

Speed kills better, and recoil misses better.

Especially if you push it fast enough to crater a primer and stamp the case head that badly. Lol.

Some may think that is cratering from over pressure, however it appears that your bolt-head needs to be bushed. Nice bear, don't need magnums for the blackies, 270 Win. will do just fine!

If that was the only pressure indicator then maybe. But either way it did the job.

Yes, I tend to agree. Although I've used a 7 mag. for the majority of my hunting of non-dangerous species, the .270 Win. would have done just as well, I think. Loaded with the right powder (like the newer super-powders such as Re25 and Re26) to a full, but safe, charge, and good controlled-expansion bullets, it should be fully capable of clean kills even at extended ranges on all but the largest and dangerous game like grizzlies (for which I’ve used a 9.3x64 Brenneke). A good 130-gr. Bullet at 3150-3200 fps and a good 150 at 3000 puts it right on the heels of the 7 mags, and it is more pleasant to shoot.
 
The 270 is a cartridge I've really come to appreciate the last few years. After hunting with a 284win (my favourite by the way) a 308 Norma and a 7 wsm it's nice to have something mainstream. A 270 will do for everything I'm going to hunt. It's one of the most versatile cartridges imo. 110 gr bullets for high speed flat trajectory and now Nosler makes a 165 gr accubond long range that I want to try and see if it stabilizes in my 1-10 twist barrel, some say it does.
 
Anyone that is starting hunting that asks my opinion on cartridge anymore I recommend a 270. It’s an extremely well balanced cartridge.
