.308/.30-06 would cover any hunting I plan to do, as I could tailor velocity and bullet weight to species, or just use 150 grain TTSX for everything, and then use match ammo/bullets at the range.

Don't want to be without the .375H&H magnum though, and I agree with all the sentiments on the .338WM.

I fully agree on the .375 being hard to eliminate. I’ve been on a mission for years to be a .308 only cabinet for the actively used rifles, there can be peripheral toys for which I stock small amounts of niche components, but the bread and butter is supposed to be .308.

I struggle to eliminate .375, and .257. I worry the real answer is damn to ubiquity and go .25 and .375, as there’s nothing in the world that pair doesn’t cover nearly perfectly for what I do.

I bah great success with 30-06, I like 9.3x62 a lot, I have a 7x57 that didn’t get blood yet, same with my 8x57…. And I am getting 7x65r and 9.3x74r for next season…. Maybe they will be my new favorite lol!

Aside from a dedicated bison gun I can’t think of too many reasons to screw on the 338 barrel (he says with a 338, 9.3 and 358 Norma in the cabinet)

My thinking too, .338’s already an all rounder, as the 7mm Mag is on this continent. Its pairing ought to lean more to the lighter, reachy end. I could see a 6mm or .257 as a practical partner, the practical magnum bolt face option being the ‘Bee.

My favorite? 6.5 x 55, Living in Southern Ontario, it is legal to use here; works on ground-hogs with a really fast 85 gr bullet; shoots heavy bullets up to 160 gr with loads of retained energy down range. Mild recoil. No negatives.

My thoughts are that I’m 100 grains apart in bullet weight. I shoot 250’s in my 338 and if I shoot 150’s in my 7mm I’m over 400 fps apart in velocity with a very noticeable difference in recoil. Now, of course, I can narrow that gap significantly but they can be two fairly different animals.

Only calibers in my collection are 9mm 12g .22 and .308. With one unicorn exception of a 500S&W mag because who doesn’t like fun.

If I could only chose one it would be .308 no question.
