7.62x25 for me.
Reason behind it.
I reload various 30 cal pistol/revolver cartridges.
Out of 7.62x25 components one can make 30 Mauser, 30 luger, cases for 9x19(snow day shooting), bullets can be used in
30 Reid, 7.62x38R Nagant, 7.5 Swiss/Swede, 32ACP and many more.

Although 9mm is prolific, in the end its just 9x19

Truthfully, my favorite handgun cartridges are, and have always been those that I both enjoy shooting and can easily reload for economically.

Since the beginning, that has been the big bores of .45 Colt and .44 Magnum, both being revolver cartridges.
Both are steeped in Old West lore and ancestry, and cases are durable, easily loaded, and long-lived.
Chamber pressures in loads below 900 FPS are low, yet with 250 and 240 grain bullets, these cartridges are powerful.
And, unlike auto pistols, you don't have to chase your valuable brass all over hell's half acre.
That being said, I have always loved .45 ACP.

I also like .38 Special/.357 Magnum, and intend to shoot this cartridge more in future.

9mm and .40 caliber?

Meh.

Im shocked at the low numbers for the .40cal. I thought it would be higher up the list.

9 mm is the most efficient cartridge at what it does. I am not surprised it is the most popular handgun cartridge.

Even in a carbine, it is ok to 200+ yards. Check out youtube tests on what its penetration is at 440 yards from a JR carbine.

I bet people who like .40 or .45 ACP, like these calibres because they saw them in the movies...

Favorite is definitely the .45ACP... but I don't discriminate: give me a solid gun and I'll shoot that caliber.

I'll take that bet in my case: I started with 9mm, moved up to 40 and then moved up to 45ACP. Not movies (I hardly watch them anymore) but just preference: in the same 1911 I can shoot .45ACP better than 9mm. Tsk, tsk... It's like saying someone who likes 9mm only does so because they want to "fat shame" the .45ACP... or likes .762x25mm because it "has curves in all the right places"... or likes 9mm because they are too much of a "wussly girly boy" to shoot a real caliber.

Remember: unity over division.

I would never want to be without a 22 but my favourite would have to be the .357 mag. There is very little that this round cannot do. If you reload for it, you can go from mouse fart target and training round all the way up to self defense and deer hunting.

While not a "pistol" my favorite caliber and the one i'm having most fun with is the S&W 460 magnum shooting 454's or 460's but it's not the cheapest
