What is your go anywhere do anything rifle?

Let's see some pics of the rifle you would take to o anywhere (in north America) and be confident taking any big game animal. Mine started as a tikka 308 that I figured would be the only rifle I would ever need but being gun nutz we all know that was a flavor of the month. Then I built a 280 ackley on a tikka action. Another great choice in my mind but the itch wasn't scratched.

This year its a 6.5 prc built on yet another action. Very similar to the 280 ackley but a bit more pleasant to shoot as well as a bit lighter. The specs are a tikka action due to me being a lefty and it was the most logical choice. I bought a 6.5 prc heller arms 20" fluted barrel off of the ee here. Set in a stockys vg stock with a trijicon credo 2.5-15×42, the whole package comes in at just under 8lbs or 8lb 2 Oz with the mnt gear bipod. The Salmon river solutions arca/pic forestock rail was an addition that allows me to choose between a bipod or tripod. I feed it a steady diet of 145 sierra tipped game kings and 156 berger elite hunters both at right around 2900fps. Ive taken it out as far as 865 yards so far nd its doing well with well under moa accuracy. I plan on using it for antelope and deer this year but wont hesitate to use it on elk or moose next time I'm drawn.

Ruger no 1 .338. As a “hunting” rifle, the action and calibre can not be beat IMO.

It would the Tikka which you had before haha although 6.5 PRC is a strong contender too....or 6.5 CM with the +Peak alloy rounds. Thats a runner up because while it could certainly kill anything, it doesn't mean its legal.

3rd place would be a stainless Win 70 Classic in 30-06.

I like shooting Bergaras but don't have a lot of faith in them not falling apart after enough shooting. Or the cocking piece not breaking. Or the spot welding on the bolt handle. Or Remington 700 triggers. Or....well heck, they ARE great and fun shooters tho. And the Sierras available in stainless now.

Started life out as a CZ550 FS in 30-06. Loved the look of that stock but it never felt good for me. So torn down and Cerakoted, bedded it to a Bell&Carlson and QD mounted the excellent S&B 6x42. Added little things like HiViz Recknagel sight inserts and a 3HGR sling.

Wouldn't call anything shooting .264s a hunt anything in NA rifle but since most are erring lighter I'll see your PRC and raise it to a 7STW. My real answer would be 300wm and up. Light to heavy bullets with some juice behind it.

My Answer is probably to Literal to the question go anywhere do anything question. Mine would be my Drilling in 16x16x9.3-72R i can hunt upland game birds water fowl and any large mammals and rabbit's it carrys nicely as well in the hands.

I have a drilling in the same configuration but I think the question was gor four legged critter hunting only.

The Springfield Waypoint 2020 in 308 that I own.
I have owned a whole bunch of hunting rifles and for a factory rifle, it is ridiculously accurate with every load I have put in it.
I would be confident hunting any animal on earth with it.
I would trade it for same in a 6.5 creedmoor perhaps but I can shoot this one sub moa out to 800 yards so why would I?

Personally it would be hard to dismiss my run of the mill 700 Mtn in ‘06.

Not too short or long on length, neither UL nor too heavy (#7.2lbs optics in). Just about perfect for here in Ont. I certainly don’t feel I’m lacking or wanting anything more provincially and probably the same anywhere else in NA in reality. While I’ve had 7mmRM, 300W, 300WSM and until recently 300Wby in the past, I keep coming back to or picking up and utilizing that Mtn ‘06 95% of the time.

The Aught Six is not the fastest or flatess of calibers in todays world, however it checks off a lot of boxes game wise in NA with a wide array of grain weights in factory loads avail and over a century of proven effectiveness and reliability. Bonus pts is that if you’re in some backcountry, out there in the sticks kinda town, chances are you’ll find factory ammo for it at the local general store in a pinch. Not so much with the CM/PRCs etc

Those points are hard to ignore or dismiss. One could argue smaller, lighter, flatter, faster, bigger, more ommph yadda yadda yadda but read that above paragraph again and give it some serious thought to it… we’ll wait
