What is your honest opinion on Vortex optics?

I had one the illumination switch broke in my soft case before I even got to use it. It would neither have a positive on or off notch in the switch so the battery would die because it was left on or the illumination would turn itself off. I repeat not one shot only mounted it. I put the rifle in my drag bag that's padded on the back seat of my truck, and out to my shooting spot. I was discouraged to even try it out. 3 ish weeks turn around. It was brand new never even got to use it. I promptly sold it thanks to the US dollar I luckily didn't loose much money due to the timing. I somewhat wish I would have tried it out as the glass seemed very clear. The knobs had a nice positive feel and click. Either way it pissed me off. Still wouldn't mind a razor but I got a couple uso's im assuming there probably better after my experience

I have the Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism scope mounted on my Tavor, and it's bang on. The reticle is etched, but has an illumination feature which is nice. I got it before the dollar dumped against the American, so it was about $70ish dollars cheaper than what it is now.

I have a Crossfire II 4-16 x 50 mounted on my .308 long gun, although she hasn't seen much so I can't really speak on the strength of the scope.

I had a Strikefire II and VMX-3X Magnifier mounted on my AR, and I really liked that the dot was so crisp and clean, and not splotchy like you see on cheaper red dots. I sold it with the AR it was mounted on, which I regret.

I haven't had cause to use the Warranty yet so I'm still a pretty happy customer as far as Vortex goes.

I purchased a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 PA and is mounted on a .308 Win. Glass is not the best I've seen but the 'other' scopes were A LOT more money. Tracks well and I'm quite happy with it so far. Nice scope for the money and you can't beat the warranty if its ever needed. That's something that can't be said for the super expensive scopes.

I'm impressed with their warranty although I have never needed it.
I have owned 2 of these scopes, plus a razor spotting scope.
VIPER PST 6-24x50 FFP MRAD EBR-1
VIPER PST 2.5-10x32 FFP MRAD

I still have the 2.5 x 10x32 patiently waiting for a build to be finished

I use Swarovski Z6's for my hunting rifles because the are light weight but for a reasonably priced FFP scope I don't think the Viper can be beat!

I've got one of their top of the line scopes and it's excellent. Longshot set a National record with another Vortex. I think they are like many manufacturers. Low end are built for value, high end are very well made. No problem reccomending their better scopes, never used a low end one tjough.

Nightforce had a 4 week turn around on my NXS, This includes Hirsch shipping it to the US for repair.

What do you do to break so many scopes? lol

I have a Viper PST 1-4 that has seen few hundred 6.8 SPC and 1000 ish 5.56mm and has given me no trouble. I like it, but haven't been very hard on it so I can't much about overall durability.

Put it on a high powered springer pellet gun and see if it holds up. That's a true torture test

That would kill any scope as non air rifle scopes are designed and engineered for rifles that recoil rearwards while an air gun recoils in the opposite direction....I own and have owned several in all of their product lines.... Of the 15 or so that I have owned, only one failed me and it was a crossfire II I threw on a 300 wing mag until I could afford something better.... It was defective right out of the box and the warranty return was very quick.... 4 weeks.... They are no Zeiss or high end Leopoldo but good scopes nonetheless.....

What Gatehouse said^

I originally started out with Vortex scopes (Viper HS 4-16x44) a few years back before they gained popularity and were a lot more affordable then they are now. Decent scope, but I like something lighter and 1" tube for my uses... Needles to say most of my scopes now are Leupold vx3 and a couple zeiss (hd5 and terra3x). The quality and glass is above any Vortex I tried and I paid for all of them about the same, or a little more, of what a "medium quality" Vortex would cost. The trick is to shop around and wait for the rebates/sales.

Listening to people at the gun store desk selling vortex sounds like they are selling a good warranty instead of a good scope. Yes vortex has a great warranty (same with Leupold and their repair center is 15min from my house) but like someone mentioned the best warranty is the one you don't have to use. What good is the warranty when you have to miss hunting season or a match you have coming up.

I still have the Vortex range finder and just bought my 2nd diamondback binoculars. Both are excellent value and I'm happy with them.

Decent glass with good reticle choice and nice adjustment turrets for a reasonable price. I've owned 2 PST scopes, and liked them both.

That said, I don't own either anymore. Love my Leupold VX3 for hunting/target, and my ACOG/EoTech for 3 gun.

It's all been covered. They have offerings across many price points and are competitive in all of them in quality and price. And their warranty is as good as it gets. I've owned a few Vortex scopes and would certainly buy another.

I do a lot of research before I buy something like this. I enjoy that part of the process - when it actually leads to a clear decision. What makes it difficult is determining what people share the same values as me. Here's a question that would clear things up for me - for those who like Vortex, do you also like Lee reloading products? Because I f###ing hate Lee even though many are perfectly happy and make fine ammunition with their stuff.
