What is your "usual" distance for pistol shooting?

Usually 10 to 25 yds when I'm shooting my resricteds. If I'm shooting prohibs, I like to stay under 3 yds, to be sure to keep it on paper.
 
Usually 10 yards. I really should be moving up though. I guess when I hear "3 yards" I dismiss it because it sounds laughably close, but yeah. My groups even that close are nothing to write home about.

Re: 3 yds: A guy at the range scoffed when I suggested shooting at 3 yds as I handed him the target I made. His smile disappeared when I told him to fire 5 rounds into one hole. Not a larger hole with chunks of paper inside, but one, slightly enlarged bullet hole. :)
 
I have 4 guns that shoot point of Aim at the gongs @100 yards- Taurus 357mag S&W 44mag & Lama 357 mag ruger Target.
My Nork 45 & my polish T33 are set up for 50 yards.
I am scoping the Lama & taking it out to 200 yards. I used to do it with my Taurus model 608 scoped, but foolishly sold it.
It takes time & practice, adjustments, & proper reloading to hit those distances.

Its funny at the range some days,....there will be a fellow next to me trying to shoot the targets @ 100 with a rifle and missing,...then I grab my hand gun and PING ! they generally pack up and leave , LOL
I consider my self a Novice long range shooter, ..Elmer Keith shot a deer with his 357 @ 500 yards !!

Been shooting a long time. My best is 3 in one hole at 10ft. I have shot a clean Dot Torture though.
 
50 meters. The range I go to has metal plates at that range for immediate feedback.
The nice pistol range and extended rifle ranges 300+ meters at my club have not been approved by AB CFO for YEARS!!!!

I have to admit my long range accuracy with a pistol has improved.
 
I don't think I have heard of this Dot Torture test.... never tried it...
but think I will...
Like to add... it would be nice if there was a thread or site.. where a person could look up instructor that might be close to where they live or shoot.
 
Me too, first time hearing of it and it sounds like a fun challenge. I've shared a PDF printable sheet with my range buddies that i go with, just for fun.

Usually 3-25 yards, I have never shot a pistol at longer than 25yards, I'm sure it's a challenge but just not my thing. I'm still new enough at shooting pistols that I have never shot a clean Dot Torture yet,,,, but I'm getting better lol, and it gives me something to strive for :)
Even at 3-5 yards Dot Torture is a challenge, and can drive me nuts hahaha,,,, thanks for introducing me to it Still alive!
