What I've been up to...

Well done!^

Indeed. And that thread protector is superb (I say that for 99% of the time dislike having threaded muzzles but many rifles come so fitted now with an obvious and ugly protector) That M700 rail is nicely fitted.

And with regards to progress feeling like molasses: keep at it, step over the discouragement... it takes a few years for a new business to finally take off: just do it well and your name/work reputation will spread (easily by means such as CGN)

Thanks, its fun!

I struggle to remember to take pictures WHILE I'm working but here is some elbow grease being applied...

Carbine pulled apart...

Receiver set up on mandrel for hand polishing. Mounting like this on the lathe(power off) works well to hold the gun securely, but can be easily rotated by pulling out of gear and turning the chuck.

A few hours later...

Probably 8 hrs in on the other side...

Its a tedious process! (coming from a guy who doesn't mind tedious processes, bluing prep is TEDIOUS!)
Working around stampings, avoiding dishing out holes or rounding hard edges, getting evenly into corners...
Its therapeutic at the same time though, just throw on some classical music(and put a towel over the clock!).

Paul.

Here are some "fancier" after pictures... I am quite pleased. hopefully, this old girl should be good for the next 100 years!

If you don't have an overwhelming sense of pride in your work, with a little bit of smugness thrown in, you should have.

Thanks for sharing with everyone.

Thanks guys!

I thoroughly enjoy results like this, but it’s definitely a process to get there...
Peekos: I logged 42hrs on this project, the majority of those being hand work.
I’m not an old guy yet but 6-8hr sessions on this stuff is hard on fingers, hands and elbows!

Rick: satisfaction yes, smugness no...
honestly every time I do a project like this, I take my hat off to the guys that do this kind of work full time!

Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Paul.
