what kind of accuracy are you guys getting from your M14?

Ya, but that was kinda cheating. I wanted to see how the gun could shoot. So I had the thing benchrested. Elevations and windage all done through screws and knobs, near perfect wind conditions, careful resighting and barrel cool down after each shot.

Almost had a string pulling trigger too! It did illustrate to me that the rifle is indeed a shooter and that was the whole point of the exercise.

X2, But I don't consider that cheating at all. You have to take advantage of the few good winter shooting days that are available, use the bench, get comfortable and take your time.

Even a scope if you have it to see what your gun is capable of at longer ranges.

Lotsa variables. I also noted that my groups opened wide when I was using Winchester 150gr Power Point... was lucky to hit the barn door at 50yds.

Lovin Hornady Superperformance 150gr SST. 3.5in groups at 175yds with irons. Groups also tightened up when I cleaned my trigger group a little better. Guess who's developed an obsession... :D

1 to 2 MOA consistently at 100 yards. All my groups tend to have the first two shots almost touching and then the 3rd ends up an inch away from the others. Someday I'll fluke the last shot into a nice cloverleaf :D

I once loaned my older Polytech M-14S to fat tony. He promptly beat me at the 500 and 600 meter shoots. It was only when we backed off to 800 meters that I 'beat' him with my M1 rifle at this distance. But overall he beat me in accumulated point score.

Same here. 150 gr. Winchester Super X Red Box Hollow Point Boat Tail is between 1 to 2 MOA for my rifle. 18.75" Barrel, Dlask break, N.M. op rod & spring with a tuned trigger in a Archangel stock. Optics are Falcon 1.5-5X. Rifle is on a bipod and supported off rear of stock to achieve accuracy.

My 1-2 MOA performance comes from a factory 22 inch barrel chopped to 18.75 inches. By the way for those interested, I shoot a mixture of Federal blue box 150 gr and Winchester Super-X 150 gr.

Any one find some good accurate factory loads? I'm curious what mine will do with quality in the chamber.

It was probably that rare moment when rifle and shooter synced. A 2009 SR match at Connaught, 500 meter rapid, 10 shot with reloads, prone, 50.8 scored with my Norinco m14 and a simple 2.5x burris scout scope. I'm not sure what size that V bull was on that figure 11/12 target but I think it said allot about the accuracy of my rifle. I was using handloads of cours, 155 BHTPs to be exact.

Ok Rocket Surgery...when you posted this you still didn't have your rifle properly set up...now it's been tweaked at the Port Alberni M14doc clinc last weekend, and had its barrel indexed and a bunch of other mods done. How do you like it now? I seem to recall that at the shoot on the next day you were telling everyone how much you loved your M305 and how you were sorry you had ever talked behind its back, and how you would be faithful to it and write poems about it ( I believe you actually said a Haiku!). So, just how much better was it!? Let everyone know how you like it now ;-)

An after clinic range report would be nice. I remember someone was going to take photos as well. Can we see those?:D:D:D

My gun has no rails
it lacks tactical flashlights
Need AR15

There's my haiku !

Once my new flash hider arrives and I put a scope on it that has more than 60moa adjust I'll do a range report. I did a 1.75 inch group with a finger tight gas nut, hot barrel, and no rear rest so I'm guessing it can do better. The problem is that my 3-9 scope is 2 inches low @ 100 yards, so I'll need a lower mount or better scope. I set up my chargemaster last night (because I have no friends) and prepped a bunch of brass. What I really want is a scope that has an illuminated reticle and mildots without the stupid tactical knobs, they make the gun taller than I am (5foot 3)

We all know you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, depending on how much you want to put into things. I think the OP wants to know about out of the box accuracy....:)

I'd like to know this too, because I've thought about getting one of the newer Norcs, but am curious to know how much $$ you have to sink into it, or if they're acceptable out of the box. From what I've seen myself, iron sight replacement (if you plan to use them) is a given. Barrel indexing is probably needed a lot of the time too. All extra costs that newer, younger buyers (who don't have alot of dough) might not be aware of.

A 1.75" 5 shot group at 100 is VERY acceptable and is in fact 1.25" smaller than the requirement for US military designated marksman rifles.

Bottom line, if your rifle can consistantly put 5 shots into 3" and under, AND then 10 shot groups into 5" and under, YOU HAVE A KEEPER by US military/national match standards.

100 yard

Talking about Chairman Mao's rifle!

Did this load development for a Chinese friend 5 years ago. One flyer.

Interesting. I always thought the requirement would be greater than that.

The again, by customizing our reloads to our guns, we have a huge advantage over military shooters who are simply assigned ammo. Even if it is military match ammo.

That is quality information. I am seeing under 2" groups consistently. I have four M14 rifles, 3 Polys and 1 Norc and lately, I have been shooting them each using a new oprod guide. I have four of these oprod guides coming out of machining this Friday and my hope is, I will tighten these groups up. Nevertheless, starting with a "tight" oprod guide is fundamental. Investing in a good machinist's center punch will do wonders. I picked up mine from Micro Mark a long time ago.
