What makes a "soft-shooting" AR?

I swapped a F/A BCG and an H buffer into a 16" midlength carbine that i had. It reduced the recoil. Follow up shots were a little easier, especially with an EOTech. The recoil was not harsh to begin with but by swapping out these parts it definitely tamed it a bit.
Worth the money? No, but I was building something very specific.

Need more recoil reduction? Get a heavy barrel with a rifle length gas system and add an effective muzzle break. Pretty much what everyone here has said.

For what it's worth, a popular magazine published a trick to get rid of the AR's "twang." Put bearing grease on the spring and it will stop it from vibrating so much, reducing/eliminating the twang. I won't be doing this. The sound/vibration the spring makes when the last round in the magazine has been fired and the bolt is to the rear is a benefit in my mind. "The voice of the rifle talking to me."
